CHAPTER 6: THE DARK PATH

725 Words
Olivia couldn’t shake the image of Ethan and Lena together. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw their happy faces, their love, their connection. It burned through her like acid, gnawing at her sanity, pulling her deeper into a spiral she couldn’t escape. She had been fooling herself, telling herself she could let go. But no. She needed him. She had to make him see that they were meant to be together—that everything she had done was a mistake, a moment of weakness. She was ready to fix it. She would fix it. Olivia’s obsession started small, almost innocent. She’d find reasons to drive by his apartment, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. Or she’d see his name pop up on social media, and her heart would race with both hope and jealousy. Each new post with Lena cut deeper, but each one also fueled her determination. Ethan was her past—but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be her future. One evening, after weeks of watching from a distance, Olivia made her move. She waited until the dead of night, her car parked on a quiet street near his building. She watched through the windows, her breath fogging up the glass as she stared at Ethan and Lena in their world of happiness. She saw Lena laughing, her head thrown back in the way that made Ethan smile so wide. Olivia’s chest tightened. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. With trembling hands, she dialed his number. The phone rang and rang, but he didn’t pick up. Of course, he wouldn’t. In her mind, a dangerous plan began to form. Olivia drove home that night, but her thoughts were no longer her own. They were consumed with a single purpose: to take Ethan back. She didn’t care how much time it took or what she had to do. She knew that Lena was a threat, and she had to be removed from the picture. The next day, Olivia followed Lena. She had done it subtly, staying far enough behind to not raise suspicion. But she needed to know where she lived, where she went, what she did. Everything. Lena wasn’t just a woman—she was a problem. A problem Olivia intended to eliminate. --- Chapter 7: The Descent It was only a matter of time before Ethan would see things her way. She just needed to be patient. Olivia spent hours crafting the perfect message to Ethan, an apology letter that was filled with her heartache and her desperation. She would remind him of their past, of all the moments that had once been theirs. She would make him remember why they had been good together. But there was something more—something Olivia hadn’t expected. She found herself spying on Lena more frequently, following her to the café where she often met Ethan after work. Olivia would sit at a nearby table, watching them talk, watching Lena’s hand rest on Ethan’s, feeling the heat of jealousy consume her every time they smiled at each other. Olivia’s mind twisted with darker thoughts. The more she watched, the more she became convinced that Lena wasn’t just the other woman—she was an obstacle. And Olivia was done being a spectator. One night, when she saw Lena walking alone, she followed her through the quiet streets. There was no real plan, no thought beyond the overwhelming need to do something. Olivia approached Lena in the shadow of an alley, her heart pounding in her chest. “Lena,” she called out, her voice trembling. Lena turned, surprised to see Olivia standing there. “Olivia? What are you doing here?” Olivia’s eyes narrowed, the simmering rage in her veins finally bubbling over. “I should be the one with him. Not you.” Lena took a cautious step back, sensing the tension in Olivia’s words. “Olivia, I—” “No,” Olivia interrupted, her voice low and dangerous. “You don’t understand. You don’t belong with him.” Lena opened her mouth to protest, but before she could speak, Olivia reached out and grabbed her arm, her grip like iron. “You’ll never take him from me.” For the first time, Olivia felt powerful. She had taken control. And nothing would stop her from getting Ethan back.
