At seven pm, liam pulled up in front of the fletcher's residence, he came out of the truck and was about to walk right to the cabin when he sensed someone watching him. He raised his head to look at the fletcher's house, and the couples quickly closed the curtains, he smiled and continued. Getting to the door, he knocked and in half a minute the door swung open, standing right in front of him was beautiful victoria in a pale peach maxi dress.
"You look so beautiful Tori."
"You don't look so bad yourself, liam." she stared at his pair of black chinos pant and his long sleeve white shirt that had the first three buttons undone, his hair smoothly combed back, her hands were itching to mess with it.
Her grey eyes locked with his green ones for a few seconds until he finally spoke; "Shall we?"
"Sure." she stepped out and locked the door.
"After you." he said.
They walked towards the truck and he hurriedly opened the passenger's side for her, then turning to the driver's side, she spotted the fletchers staring again. Smiling, he got in, started the engine and drove off. Liam and victoria entered into a not so fancy but nice restaurant, sitted in their seats while they wait for their orders, Liam spoke first; "Are you okay? You seem unusually quiet."
"I'm fine, you seem unusually nosy."
"I'm not nosy."
"Is there a particular reason you wanted me to go to dinner with you?"
"Is there a particular reason you decided to return to solvang?"
"Oh my God, liam, really?" victoria narrowed her eyes.
"I'm curious Tori, why return after disappearing for eleven years?"
"I came home seven years ago."
"For your sister's funeral, then you took care of your mother that fell sick shortly after."
"Liam."
"I'm sorry, i'm so sorry tori." liam held her hand, she pulled away immediately. "You disappeared again for six years without a word" he continued, "Now you're back and i don't know how long before you disappear again. I kept missing my bestfriend, i missed my tori."
Victoria stared at him for a moment and then retracted her gaze, their orders arrived, then she spoke. "I'm back now, and i'm staying this time. Now can we eat? I'm actually starving."
Liam sighed, he smiled at her; "Sure." he said.
After dinner, they walked out of the restaurant and got into liam's truck; "Before i take you home, there's one more place i want you to see."
"Where is that?"
"Patience young lady." victoria squints at him. He drove them to solvang high football field, stepping out of his pick up, victoria asked.
"What are we doing here liam?"
"Scared of getting in trouble?"
She scoffed, "No, i'm not sixteen anymore."
"Then come with me." he said, as he pulled her along with him towards the garden behind the field, there was a swing in the middle. "This was our favorite spot, remember."
Victoria smiled, "I'm guessing you volunteered to take care of it after mr donalds."
"You know me so well."
Victoria sat on the swing and sighed, she and liam came here almost every summer to help mr donalds water the flowers and grow some tomatoes. Liam grew to love the garden so much he came even during school sessions, she turned to the tree beside the swing and saw an engraved writing in the middle of a heart shaped drawing.
'Liam and Tori, bestfriends forever.'
She stared at him but he wasn't paying attention to her, she touched it and smiled, "Come see this tori." she walked closer to him, he pointed at the blue roses she planted years ago.
"It survived?"
"Yes, i made sure of it."
"Oh my Goodness, liam, it's beautiful." she said and looked at him, "Thank you." She stood up and traced them to the side of the ranch house. "It's everywhere, oh my." victoria giggled in excitement.
"It's getting late now, and chilly too. Let's get you home where it's warm."
Victoria frowned, "Why would you bring me here then, knowing i wouldn't want to leave after seeing this?" she pouted
Liam chuckled, "You can always come around anytime tori." his sea green eyes sparkled under the moonlight, her heart skipped a bit.
"You're right, let's go." she said.
On their way, the truck was quiet, liam thought she would be more chatty after she saw the garden, but she was still so stiff. He put on a song and tapped his long fine fingers on the stirring wheel, as he sang along with 'Trevor Jackson - Just friends'
'I know we're just friends but be honest, you can lie to yourself if you wanna.....'
"Come on, sing with me tori, this is our song."
Victoria rolled her eyes at him, "That was....years ago liam, i...don't remember the words."
"You really don't know how to lie tori, come on." he continued:
'What we've been through, All we've been through, you had my back and i had you too....'
"Victoria Craven!"
"Alright, alright." Victoria raised her hands in surrender and sang along:
'Liam: so baby tell me again,
Vicki: Oh tell me the reason,
Both: We're not lovers, just friends, don't tell me that you can't see it.
Liam: No tellin where we'll both end up, if we don't say somethin, say somethin.
Vicki: There's no saying that we'll both find love, if we don't make some, make some.
Liam: If all that it takes is for one of us to come out and say it, i'll say it
Vicki: Oh baby tell me again
Both: Why we're not lovers and we're just friends.
They both laughed, ditching the next part as liam pulled up in front of the fletcher's residence. Victoria turned to liam, "I had a good time liam, thank you." she said
"I'm glad you're happy and smiling again." he leaned in and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Good night tori."
"Good night liam."
