Part of the reason for this is that a lot of Egyptian mythology is contradictory - each region, and even each city, often had a slightly different version of events. This is why some gods and goddesses can be linked to several others. Taweret was first connected to a demon named Apep as her consort, and was an evil figure in mythology, but gradually changed until she became the protective goddess of childbirth, during which time she was often connected as Sobek (and sometimes with other gods).
