Chapter 9I woke in shadow. A silhouetted face frowned down at me. I groaned as aches from my landing and smarts from my collection of stings seemed to reassure the face that I was not dead, and the frown changed to a smile. It took a moment longer before I recognised it. “Wilfred?” I said, sitting up and surprised that I was able to do so. “The very same,” he said, the smile changing to a grin. Looking around, I found myself sitting amongst a pile of flour sacks, some of which had burst, sending a cloud of white dust over most of my body. A flour-covered wasp suddenly crawled out of my ear. It flew off like a tiny winged ghost. “Thanks. It was lucky you were here to break my fall,” I said as sense slowly came back to me.
