Chapter 10I slept soundly for several hours. Nothing to do, sadly, with the minuscule portion of alcohol I had been given. I fell asleep to the whispering draught from the fireplace. I awoke in darkness, not knowing what had woken me but certain of a presence now in the room. As usual, I lay facing the wall, and at first, I thought I was being granted another visitation from Kit. After seeing or imagining his likeness in the photograph, it was almost as if I was expecting him. Then I heard the softest of footfalls and the floor creaked.
