Chapter 12I’m not normally an early riser. Generally, I like to lie in for a bit, thinking about getting up before I can bring myself to do it. But today was the day of the funeral, and once my eyes had opened, I threw back the covers and climbed to my feet. I was tasked with getting Matthew there in the carriage, and it wouldn’t do to be late. First things first, however, and I took my morning leak on the aspidistra. A few weeks of attention from my bladder had worked wonders on it. Several new leaves had sprouted, and it looked lush, green, and happy. It almost looked as if it could’ve clapped its little leaves together in happiness at the sprinkling I was giving it, entirely oblivious, or perhaps uncaring, to the fact that there was a funeral due for its late master.
