CHAPTER 30 VIOLET I’d had some stupid ideas in my time, like moving to California in the first place, but this one took first prize. What on earth had possessed me to sleep in the pool house again? Earlier, in daylight, I’d been determined not to give in to the fear. If I succumbed, it meant that whoever was stalking me had won. It had taken every acting skill I possessed to convince Lucas and Dawson that I’d be fine by myself, and now I regretted making the effort. Even listening to Mikki having an orgy in the next room would have been preferable to sitting alone in the dark, jumping at every shadow. And there were a lot of shadows. A storm was passing overhead, lashing the roof with rain, and I could see the fronds on the palms by the pool whipping back and forth in the howling wind.
