SERAPHINA'S POV
At the grand hall, looking at the variety of dishes placed on the table, one would think a banquet is being hosted.
We all took our seats as I sat opposite a girl whom I thought was my sister, as she inherited mom's features and dad's nose.
I didn't touch my food as I wasn't even sure if it was mine and was used to eating other people's scraps.
Mom, always the perceptive one, noticed I didn't touch my food and asked,"Don't you like porridge, darling?"
I smiled wryly and said,"I do mom, but I'll eat after you guys are done." A slight frown creased her beautiful features. "Eat dear, you're free, no one will scold you, this your home and you can get a second filling if you're not satisfied." She told me while giving a smile this time.
I teared up again and silently began eating the porridge. It was warm, creamy and delicious just like the joy in my heart at the thought of belonging somewhere
The food was so delicious that I thanked mom,"Thanks mom, the food is nice." She instantly whooped her head to face me as if she had saw a ghost. I was kind of startled and asked,"Mom, what's wrong?, nothing dear". She answered.
"Actually, I didn't cook the food, Catherine did." My eyes shone in admiration and I wished she would share her cooking hacks with me. I instantly redirected the praise to the rightful owner, "Thanks aunt Cathy, the food is yummy, and I wish to learn your cooking recipe if you don't mind."
She looked awestruck at first but then slowly nodded. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her wiping away a stray tear that kept me wondering what had made her cry.
After dinner, as I was helping the maids with the plates, I was stopped again once more and reminded that I shouldn't do any house chores by mother.
Mom then officially introduced my sister to me. Her name was Heaven, a 20 year old, with a slightly obesse body, tight dark curls inherited from our father, a pretty face, though caked with layers of makeup, and beautiful hazel eyes. I saw her as an angel, an ethereal being and a big sister I never had.
Contrary to my expectations, she was the devil's incarnate.
