CHAPTER 12

351 Words
SERAPHINA'S POV Returning to my room, I tried to rest after the long stressful day I'd had - one where I felt like Cinderella's maid than an actual daughter. I closed my eyes for a split second when a shock of cold water hit me a second later. I gasped, turning sharply only to meet the devil herself. The sinister smile on her lips said everything, "you're just started ". "You lazy brat," she snapped. You've been sleeping since morning!, don't you know your job? Get your lazy ass of that bed and tend to my laundry. My room is kinda messy, you'll clean it up okay?" Dejected, I dragged my aching body to her room. Clothes, sprawled in every corner of the room - hardly a "little mess". Still, I had no say nor choice. I began picking them and tossing it into the laundromat. While waiting for the cycle to end , I leaned against the wall and drifted ito sleep without meaning to. A sharp sting across my face jolted me awake as my hand flew to my face. Mom stood there- furious. I could smell the alcohol on her breath. Tears stung my eyes as I let it fall while sobbing. This action of mine further satisfied mom as she yanked my hair and dragged me across the floor to her room. "Mom please-" I cried but she didn't stop. The floor was littered with shards of glass from broken bottles. My sister watched from the doorway, a smirk playing on her lips. “Seraphina,” she said sweetly, “kneel on them, and I’ll forgive you.” I froze. But naïveté ran deep in me. So I obeyed. The sting shot up my legs as the shards pressed into my skin. I bit my lip, trying not to scream. “Good girl,” she muttered, walking away as if nothing had happened. And I stayed there — bleeding, broken, and wondering why love had to hurt this much. But still held on the silver of hope that Mom would rescue me and all this was a dream.
