SERAPHINA'S POV
Later that day, I spotted an unfamiliar car pulling into the driveway from my window. It wasn’t flashy, but the aura surrounding it screamed wealth and power.
Out stepped a woman, elegant and poised, perhaps in her late forties, and a man who looked to be in his seventies. They complemented each other perfectly, their bond radiating quiet affection despite the difference in their auras. It was the kind of love I’d always dreamed of.
Hand in hand, they walked into the house—the man treating his wife like a queen. They stayed for quite a while, likely discussing something important.
A few moments later, Mrs. Catherine called me in. Mom had requested my presence. Assuming they needed refreshments, I carried a tray of orange juice along.
Their laughter echoed down the hallway before I even entered. When I stepped inside, I was greeted by Mom’s bright smile—something I hadn’t seen in what felt like forever.
“Come, come, my dear!” she said cheerfully. “I was just telling my guests about you. Oh, how thoughtful of you—look! She even brought us drinks.”
Her tone was so light, so motherly, it caught me off guard. I smiled shyly as she patted the space beside her, urging me to sit.
Once seated, I was on edge- my heart in my mouth as she continued, “You see, my dear, this lovely couple has come to seek your hand in marriage. You’re the most suitable match for their son, darling.”
I lowered my gaze, cheeks burning. Shock, embarrassment, and disbelief flooded through me.
Then, as if it were the most normal thing in the world, Mom said, “Did I tell you she made a foreign delicacy today? Mia, bring it in.”
Plates of moi moi and lasagna were served. The guests took a bite, and their faces immediately brightened.
Oh dear! This is delicious. And you can make lasagna too? She’s definitely the one,” the woman exclaimed.
I blushed, hiding my face behind my curls.
“You know, darling,” she added, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Her husband nodded approvingly.
They soon stood to leave. “We’ll finalize the details over the phone and set the date. I think fall would be perfect, don’t you?”
Mom nodded with an eager smile. “Sure.”
The couple departed, leaving me frozen.
It was after they left that realization hit me like a ton of bricks - I was set up in an arranged marriage.
Before I could even process it, Mom’s voice sliced through my thoughts.
“Seraphina, stop daydreaming and get back to work.”
