Alissa POV
As bad as the day had started it went pretty decent from that point onward. I managed to print the documents on the second floor printer (yay me!) and the one in my office was now fixed by a very nice man from the IT department (Kevin I think his name was). I still thought it was odd that a construction company needed an IT department, but bless their existence.
When David (Sarah told me to just call him David even though it felt a bit weird) was in his meeting I sped home on the bus to change my outfit. I got some weird looks and the outfit was ruined for sure, but I made it back to the office in a crisp new look just before the meeting ended.
I managed to get through the day without any more issues and I think I did a pretty good job of restoring a bit of my reputation as a professional PA. David was still frowning at me a lot, but I think that might just be how he looks. I mean it must be stressful to run a branch of the mob, it probably had nothing to do with me…. Right?
On the bus ride home my thoughts wandered to David again. Mob boss or no, I want him to like me and to come to think of me as somebody he could rely on. As a PA of course. Just as a PA. Nothing else. I would NOT fall for my boss again. Not that he was interested in me anyway…
All this pondering nearly made me miss my bus stop. I jumped out of the bus just in time and as I made my way up to the apartment I made a promise to myself that I would do everything in my power to not make the same mistakes that I made with Paul. I would keep my distance. It was for the best, even if my body seemed to disagree with me.

David POV
“She has got to go”, I told Sarah sternly.
It was the end of the workday and I felt like it had lasted about 50 years. I had a few meetings today which helped me get through the day and this Alissa girl hadn’t made any more mistakes, but this was just not going to work at all. The moment I came home to the pack house I went to see Sarah. I was sure one of the other people she had interviewed would still be available. Anyone really.
“What are you talking about?” Sarah answered, frowning at me. She had been in the middle of putting together the crib for her pup with Jack when I had barged into their living space and interrupted them.
“Alissa. She has got to go. It’s not working out. She blew up the printer and…”, I stopped myself right there. If I told Sarah that Alissa was my mate then she would probably refuse to help me get rid of her. On the other hand, I was her Alpha, she should just follow my orders for once…
“And what??”, Sarah asked in an incredulous tone. “Is it the printer in my office? I have blown that one up twice before I realized not to pull the ink cartridge out by force. I told you to replace it months ago.”
“It’s not just that”, I stubbornly replied without giving any more details.
“Then what is it?” Jack now chimed in, abandoning the construction of the crib. “I mean you are a reasonable man. Surely you don’t want to fire some poor girl just for a small mistake that could happen to anyone?”
Great. Just great. Now my Beta was making me look like some despot that randomly fired people for no good reason. But I did have a good reason.
I frowned at the people that were in front of me and that were looking at me with both confusion and, in Sarah’s case, annoyance. They would only understand if I told them. And I had to tell them in order to get rid of Alissa. Because if I got rid of her without telling them then Sarah would find out eventually and she would pester me like a pitbull until I would have to tell her anyway. Might as well do it now.
“She is my mate.” I muttered under my breath.
“She is your what now?” Jack asked.
“His mate!” Sarah squealed. “So that was what Bella was on about! She sensed our Luna!”
“She is NOT your Luna”, I quickly interjected. “She has to go. I don’t want a mate. I will reject her first thing tomorrow and then you need to find me another PA. A wolf this time.”
"You can't reject her", Sarah responded in a very pleased with herself kind of tone.
"I am the Alpha. I can do whatever I want", I growled at her. This was becoming ridiculous. Telling me what to do in the office and now trying to tell me what I can and can’t do in my personal life as well? This stopped right here and right now. I would reject Alissa and that would be the end of it.
"Actually, she's right", Jack chimed in.
"And why, do pray tell, can I not reject her?" I said while now glaring at Jack.
"You mean aside from the fact that she is the perfect person that the moon goddess chose especially for you?", he questioned.
"Yes, aside from that," I growled, gradually losing my patience. I had heard the 'perfect mate' story so many times and when I was young I had found it really exciting. But my 18th birthday had come and gone and no mate had showed up. I searched in other packs for years, but nothing. I had to do it all by myself. I lost my parents in a car accident when I was 21 and I had to deal with their loss and taking on the role of Alpha without this ‘perfect person’ by my side. And now that I had my life on track and the pack was doing really great, the moon goddess wanted to butt in? No. I made myself and this pack what we were without a mate. I didn't need or want one now. It would only make me weak. Vulnerable. And a pack has no use for a weak Alpha.
"Sarah told me that she is human", Jack stated in a factual tone. That snapped me out of my thoughts.
"So what?" I demanded.
"So the moon goddess doesn't take rejections lightly. She made it possible, yes, but for a rejection to work the other party has to accept the rejection. And they have to do that in the full knowledge of what it is they are doing", Jack explained.
It slowly started to dawn on me why there might be a problem. "So if I reject her she has to accept it knowing what it means. But she is human..." I trailed off.
"She is human so she won't understand. Not unless you explain to her what we are, what the mating bond is and what it means to be rejected", Sarah finished, still looking smug.
I stormed out of their apartment, but not before threatening them both to keep their mouths shut about me finding my mate. I used an Alpha command to be sure. It didn’t really sit well with me to use those kinds of commands on anyone, but I needed to figure this out by myself before the whole pack would get involved.
I wolfed down (no pun intended) some dinner from the pack house kitchen and then I went up to my office to think things over. One thing was for sure, I would not get involved with Alissa. I would keep my distance and ignore her the best that I could until I came up with a better idea. Even if my wolf and my body strongly disagreed with my plans.
