“Do not tell me that!” Alpha Diego roared, stamping his left foot on the ground. “Do not try to convince me that a pregnant woman outran you and your men, Reuben, I’ll not take it.”
He was pacing. Anger caused lines to appear on his forehead as he spoke to his commander.
They were his hope of seeing Madeline and his child again, but they returned without her because she was already long gone before the realized.
Out of rage, he ordered that adequate punishment be meted to the servants who were supposed to wait on her.
“Reuben, you are going to back out there and return with my bride!” he said. “You and your men are going to search thoroughly, you’re going to ask questions, and you’re going to start now.”
With that, he dismissed him. Trying to control his rage. He tapped his feet on the footstool, trying to relax himself, but didn’t achieve the rhythm he wanted and let out a loud howl out if frustration.
Upon realizing the effect of growing up without a mother, Madeline decided it was best to leave before the child was born. She was convinced her child deserved better than a ruthless father who is only concerned about breaking a curse, and a battalion if hand and foot maid.
Her child deserved affection and care, the kind only a mother can give, and safe was not about to trade that for anyone, not even the Alpha.
Weeks passed, and there was no sign nor information concerning Madeline.
Alpha Diego who had leapt for joy not long ago wore a gloomy countenance, cursing his life for becoming so difficult.
He summoned the high priestess, ready to get answers, as he was running short of time.
“Arindia, what shall I do?” he asked with a heavy voice. “You have ignored me and allowed me suffer for this long, what shall I do?”
Arindia stared him, aghast.
“Ignore you?” she asked. “My Alpha, you brought this upon yourself, and you shall bear the consequences.”
He was too miserable to bother with analyzing what he just said.
“Shall I choose another maiden to make my bride?” he asked.
“The Moon Goddess forbids such!” Arindia said vehemently. “You shall do no such thing my Alpha because it is either Madeline or nobody else.”
Now, it was Alpha Diego’s turn to look at her, aghast.
“Why?” he asked. “Why nobody else?”
“Madeline is going to bear you a son, however, you have managed to scare her away with your carelessness and you only is to blame for that and shall bear the consequences of your actions.”
“But, I took care of her,” he argued, pointing out the measures he went to ensure she was well attended to and cared for.
Without another word, the High Priestess left, leaving him even more confused than he was before her arrival.
Soon, weeks became months and Madeline was nowhere to be found. The impact of her disappearance be felt all over the Kingdom as the remarkable difference that her coming around brought about eluded everyone.
The famines returned with force, and the firstborn of every being began to die, Alpha Diego’s nightmares became more horrifying causing him to dread sleep.
He was only left with nothing but the sweet memories of the few times she woke up and found him shaking from his dream and held him gently until he calmed down. She would run her slender fingers through his hair, reassuring him that she was there and that he was fine.
Madeline cared for him genuinely even though she didn’t say much. Whenever his dreams grew worse, safe readily provided him with a shoulder to lean on until he felt better.
Using that approach, his sleeping habit improved and his nightmares disappeared. Her presence brought it to a halt and the sweet calmness she exuded overtook his entire being. Bringing him peace and relaxation.
Now that she was gone, he was everything but peaceful. The chaos he was drowning in before her arrival worsened and his kingdom became even more miserable every passing day.
His men were still searching, Alpha Diego had refused to give up hope, believing that she must be somewhere and that she could be found.
“My Alpha,” Reuben said, about to deliver his report for the day. Of course Alpha Diego knew there was nothing new to say, but he waved him on mindlessly and continued rocking his chair.
“My Alpha, thy maiden was seen in the 5th neighboring village, Ogboki kingdom by one of our informants, and it is said that she had delivered of her child,” Reuben said in one breath.
Alpha Diego sat up immediately.
“Have you sent you men there confirm?” he asked, to keep himself from getting overly excited yet.
“They’re on their way as we speak now,” Reuben assured him.
“Good,” Alpha Diego said, beaming a smile after a long time. “Let me know of anything if they comes back.”
Reuben bowed and made his way for the door.
“And Reuben,” he called.
“Yes, my Alpha,” Reuben answered, making a 360 turn to face him.
“Thank you,” he said with a nod.
Reuben returns the nod and takes his leave.
The next morning, the men return with the news that Madeline has further moved to Reno Kingdom.
Devastated, Alpha Diego stormed his worship chamber which was only opened during full moons poured out his pain to the Moon Goddess, accusing her of leaving him stranded in a mission she had recruited him on.
He was frustrated and angry, and was even more hurt that the Moon Goddess had seen his predicament and allowed him to suffer.
When his men returned from Reno Kingdom, Reuben badged into his room.
“Apologies, my Alpha” Reuben said. “Thy maiden is about to get married to King Acuna of Reno Kingdom whose men had delivered her from the claws of the evil brings of the evil forest.”
Alpha Diego stood from his chair and changed out of his robe.
“How did she get to the evil forest?” he enquired.
“She had encountered a treacherous driver who was supposed to help her escape Ogboki kingdom when she realized that she had been found out, and he carried her to the evil forest and abandoned her there,” Reuben explained.
“What of the child?” he asked.
“He is with her, my Alpha,” Reuben said.
“When is this wedding happening?” Alpha Diego asked.
“In the next three days, my Alpha. As I speak with you, preparations are ongoing.”
Alpha Diego nodded and dismissed him.
