I know, I know—you think I’m a total loser for not going after her and making sure she’s okay.

I was just so petrified by it—the grandiose, sweeping romantic gesture that Logan f*****g Townsend used to woo the girl I love in front of the entire school. I kept thinking, Seriously? I can’t even tell her a few simple words, and this guy has the balls to serenade her at the pep rally?
It made me feel like I’m too chickenshit to deserve her, and that thought made me even more chickenshit—far too much to go after her.
I was worried, of course. Amazing as I think her fire powers are, I know they scare her—and I’d be lying if I said they didn’t scare me, too. I mean, hell, she could have killed everyone in that auditorium if the faculty
