EPISODE 8 (THE DETECTIVE’S REVELATION) “Before I took up the job, my boss asked me to request for anything I would need to make my work easier. I requested for a house close to this place”, Sharon continued her revelation “He granted my wish and rented the apartment I reside in currently, just so I could be close to this office. I also asked him for a backup, just in case things got messy and I needed help. He asked me to pick any of my colleagues that I felt I could work with. So, I chose someone that I have always worked with and achieved results. I had a backup here all along. He has also been on standby at all the hotels we ever lodged, just in case I got caught. I always left our room doors unlocked, to enable easy access”, she further revealed. (the members of staff began to whisper among themselves again, shock written on their faces) “Don’t worry, I will unravel the mystery now”, Sharon told them. She picked up her phone and dialed a number. “Come inside”, she said as the receiver picked the call. About twenty seconds after, Akpan walked in dressed in his big coat as usual. “Introduce yourself properly”, Sharon told him “I am Detective Danjuma from the Criminal Investigations Department. My name is not Akpan, neither am I from Eket as I introduced It was easy for me for me to pretend and speak like an Eket man because my room mate of four years in school is from Eket and his name is Akpan. I learnt how to speak like him over time. I only decided to add a bit of naughtiness to mine and act like an illiterate. So, I decided to use that aspect of me to cover up my real identity (The whole room became rowdy once more Akpan (Danjuma) spoke pure queen’s English, which was the direct opposite of who they all thought he was) After the noise subsided, Sharon continued. “As for bringing Danjuma into this company, we were just lucky that he got picked. I called my ex cleaner friend Dora after the last two people were fired. I asked her to describe them for me”, she continued “It was from her description I got to understand that one of the cleaners was acting like a clown and dressing funny. He was an illiterate too according to her”, Sharon added “Kojo was the errand boy of both Mr Excellent and Mr David. They took advantage of his literacy level and turned him into an errand boy”, she told me. “He would wash their cars sometimes, do the job of the gardener, buy them food, etc. I am sure they would readily employ anyone that looks or act like him”, she added. “With that, we decided that Danjuma should act the way he has been acting, so as to disguise him, hoping he would be employed. It worked! He was employed and just as Dora told us, Danjuma became their errand boy. But he didn’t care. All we both wanted was to get the job done, regardless of the challenges” Sharon continued to reveal, to the dismay of all present “Danjuma was the one that disconnected the power supply from the cutout to put off the CCTV Camera, the day I gained entrance into the Manager and the HR’s offices. He was also the one that helped me to take the documents out, tucking them in under his big coats. He did a lot of things to clear the way for a thorough investigation”, she sighed (she got up and went to Danjuma, gave him a salute and then a hand shake) “Thank you so much”, she told him Facing the crowd, she said “the reason he was always on big clothes is because he had a pistol all along (Danjuma opened his coat to reveal a small pistol in the inner pocket), just for defense. Nothing more (Mr David and Mr Excellent watched on in shock as Sharon continued to speak and reveal how she had fooled both of them) “I can’t believe a lady toyed with me in this manner”, Mr David finally let out. “A full-grown man like me could be fooled by a mere woman. This is shameful”, he added. “From her explanations, she didn’t fool you”, the chairman cut in. “Your lust did. Your cheating nature prevented you both from thinking straight”. “She did so many questionable things but you were too carried away by lust to think straight and ask the necessary questions. All you wanted was to get in between her legs”, he continued “Anyways, I am happy the truth has been revealed. The law will take its course”, he concluded Turning to Sharon, he said, “thank you for a job well done officer Sharon and officer Danjuma. I am sorry you had to go as low as working as a cleaner to unravel this case”, he apologized “You don’t have to be sorry chairman”, Sharon replied him. “We are detectives and we can become anything at all just to get to the end of any case. Besides you paid us handsomely for this job”, she smiled “And we also got hundred thousand naira extra working as cleaners for two months”, Danjuma added with a broad smile “So, I guess our work here is done”, Danjuma said turning to Sharon “Not yet”, Sharon replied. I told you all that I had another mission here. “When Boss gave me this job, like I said, I didn’t want to do it, but I saw someone who I had been looking for, for over five years”, Sharon started. “That picture was my answered prayer. I accepted the job immediately, because it would give me the opportunity to finally nab a hardened criminal” (Everyone in the office became serious. All eyes were on Sharon. She seemed to be full of surprises and they didn’t know what else to expect) Moving close to Mr Excellent, Sharon gave him a hot slap on his face. For a minute, Mr Excellent went blank. All he could hear was voices. He couldn’t see anything Sharon gave him time to recover from the first slap. Then she gave him another hotter one. Nobody dared to say anything. They just sat there watching the drama. “This is the bastard I have been looking for, for over five years. This is my second mission here”, she began… TO BE CONTINUED
