Not long after, the undead dragon broke through the palace walls. It flies outside free, but aware of our presence. It circles around preparing to attack. As it begins diving towards the palace gardens, Syrena and the other mages have Fire Storm ready. However, the undead dragon turns cancelling its attack.
“Now is our chance to move!” I tell the rest of my party. “We must go somewhere advantageous.”
“We must prevent it from moving around too much,” Syrena suggests. “Is there any place where we can lure it?”
“Unfortunately, all the roofed structures in the city have crumbled. What remains are their walls. Although intact, they are not enough to prevent the dragon from moving around too much,” Mark says keeping an eye on the undead creature that flew about.
“Captain, what about that building,” one of the remaining knights speaks to Mark. Mark just nods and turns to Syrena.
“There is a coliseum on the road we took. Would that suffice?” Mark relays the information.
“A coliseum?” I begin to ponder.
“That will suffice,” Syrena replies with determination in her eyes.
We make our way out of the palace grounds. The gate of the palace has the same symbol as the one on the gate inside the Chrallian forest.
“We have to lure it to the coliseum,” Syrena shouts to everyone in the party.
Past the palace is a city of rubble. Even if the buildings and the structures are toppled down, the undead dragon did not follow us, nor did it turn its head and attack. Suddenly, one of the mages casts Rock Javelin to get the dragon’s attention. Although his spell missed and failed to grab its attention, it gave me an idea.
After making it to the coliseum, where we made the necessary preparations to defeat our opponent.
“Are you sure about this?” Mark asks after concluding our plan. “It’s a double-edged sword.”
“It is,” I reply, “that’s why we have to defeat it before the sword recoils!”
“Alan is right,” Syrena affirms. “This plan is a gamble, but it is our best shot.”
The mages cast Levitate on me and the other non-magic units who can fight from a distance. We float high up over the coliseum seeing the dragon as it made its way above the city.
I need to cast a spell of great magnitude to grab its attention.
The Archers who are with me begins shooting arrows. Their arrows were small, but they reached the dragon, which was far away, although they missed. Focusing all of the MP that flowed throughout my body, I focus then on my palm as my spell is ready to materialize. Draining half of my MP, I cast a great Lightning Strike towards our undead foe. The orange sky and the surrounding area lights up as my spell streamed through the air.
This Lightning Strike is of great magnitude, surely it won’t miss.
The bolt of lightning makes it to the dragon. However, it is agile and evades my spell.
I missed, but I got its attention.
Seeing my fearsome spell, which could render me unconscious if I use it again, the undead dragon zooms towards the coliseum.
“It’s coming here!” I shout to the people below. Syrena and the mages begins their preparations. They are to cast a spell that would trap the dragon inside the coliseum.
As the dragon continues on its path, we did not let up in trying to hit it. With my remaining MP, I let out a flurry of Fireballs and Rock Javelins. When it got dangerously close, the mage dispels Levitate.
We run to our positions to entrap the dragon. Syrena stands in the middle of the coliseum as the undead dragon flies down.
“Now, we have you!” Under the entire coliseum, a golden magic circle with a symbol of the sun appears. In a blink of an eye, a force field erects surrounding the coliseum.
This force field will keep the dragon from getting out, but it will also keep us in. There is no escape. There is only the way forward.
The undead enemy starts to panic, indiscriminately spewing Decaying Breath all around the coliseum and at the barrier. It tries to force its way through, but it receives heavy damage. Syrena jumps back and joins the rest of the group.
“Will the barrier hold?” I ask her as we ready for the next phase of our plan.
“Solar Protection is a light element spell. Although, it’s not as effective as holy magic or fire magic, it should be indestructible as a defensive spell,” Syrena explains. “It’s time for the second phase. Let’s go!”
The second phase of the plan is to limit the dragon’s movements further. In order to do that, we have to destroy both of its wings. The disintegrating mist that the dragon emits is troublesome, so we have to do it by using magic. The aces for this plan are the mages. In our party, there are three mages left including Syrena. Although I can use magic, I was part of the non-magic unit who would distract the dragon.
The undead dragon lands down frustrated as it cannot break the barrier. During its moment of despair, Mark, the two Knights and the two Archers that remained, and I take our positions. Casting Fire Storm and fatally hitting it, Syrena grabs the attention of the dragon. It tries to retaliate using Decaying Breath, but the archers shot its exposed organs thwarting its assault.
“Now!” I shout as I use Time s***h to get under its neck. Using Horizontal s***h, I cut open the dragon even more. I retreat back before time could resume. My attack shocks Mark and the two Knights as the dragon’s neck suddenly opens.
“It’s Time s***h!” Mark shouts in awe.
Come on, it’s a simple skill. Still, I don’t think I have the stamina to use it again.
Mark and the other move in. As Knights, they are able to use holy magic, but the mist makes it hard for them to get close. Even as the dragon is completely battered and injured, it could still put up a fight.
One of the archers shoots an arrow imbued with holy magic and hits the dragon’s bare neck. The arrow caused it to go on a rampage. The mist that came from its body became voluminous causing us to retreat.
Suddenly, it notices the two mages on its sides. Before we could run to their aid, the undead dragon, disintegrates their existence.
It can’t be! Now our plan is…our plan is.
The death of our aces begins eating away our morale. One by one, our party mates succumbed to the dragon’s power.
This can’t be happening.
The dragon’s rampage melts the entire coliseum. Only the barrier that Syrena and the mages erected stood.
There is no way out for us. Behind is us the impenetrable barrier that only Syrena can dispel, but she will not dispel it. In front of us is a creature that is supposed to be deceased. There is no way out. Is this the end?
At the moment, Wisterion’s words resonates inside my head again, “Wisterion’s Squire is the Squire of destiny.”
I am General Wisterion van Kealyn’s Squire. I am the Squire of destiny. We can get through this! We can defeat this dragon!
As I was deep in thought, the dragon spews Decaying Breath at me. I freeze on the spot. My body can’t move. My knees are trembling. I could only feel a hand pushing me away. My trajectory allowed me to see Mark’s face as he pushes me away.
“Finish the mission,” he says as the Decaying Breath swallows him.
“No!” my back hits the ground as I land.
“Alan, you have to stand up!” Syrena shouts as she continues the fight.
Syrena, she is still fighting hard. I…I must fight too!
I could suddenly feel power rising from deep inside me. My body feels light as if I have woken up from a century of sleeping. My senses are sharp, I could see the particles of the mist as they drifted in the air. I feel invincible. In my head, the skill that will make me invincible vividly takes into shape as a screen saying that I learned it appears.
We can do this!
I jump towards Syrena and tells her of my plan.
“That’s suicide!” she is utterly flabbergasted. “That will not work.”
“It will work, trust me,” she nods in agreement casting Levitate on me.
As I float on the air, the spell that will make me unstoppable shows up in my mind.
I can only use it once. I have to make it count!
“God Wield!” I shout at the top of my lungs. Two arms form under my arms. I equip all the weapons that I brought. “Everyone, I will avenge you!”
With Syrena guiding my path using Levitate and wind magic, we will finish the mission!
“Syrena, the dragon has two weak spots. Under the neck and behind it, get me closer to those areas!”
Syrena directs me toward the dragon. Scratching and struggling, it tries to fend me off, but before its attacks could reach me, Syrena guides me away. With a barrage of skills, I lay waste to the dragon’s weak spots. There was no way it could retaliate with all the damage that I was dealing.
When Syrena pulls me back to safety, I begin to see gaps within the mist. It is enough for me to attack both of its wings.
If I cut off both of its wings, we win!
“Syrena, drop me from above it!”
“Are you crazy?”
“Just do it!”
Syrena levitates me high up reaching the barrier. I dive down to the dragon aiming for the gap between the mists. The dragon tries to defend itself by spewing Decaying Breath at me from below, but Syrena prevented it by casting Fireballs. When I was in the gap, my body moved on its own. In a great whirlwind, my arms attacked the undead dragon’s wings. All of my arms simultaneously used skills. The arm with the sword used Gravity s***h, the spear used Critical Thrust, the axe used Berserker s***h, and the strings kept my position.
This power is unimaginable!
In just seconds, I manage to cut both of the wings. I get myself out as I shout to Syrena, “Finish it!” Flicking her fingers, Syrena cast Inferno burning the dragon to a crisp. The smell of burnt meat wafts as the flames continued to swallow our enemy.
