The forbidden collection is a set of seven books that are hidden away in another dimension. Only through the librarian’s approval can an individual access these books. Imperial class magic users automatically gain the access to these books, while other classes below it has to face the librarian.
The seven books are written by the first seven Archsages. The first book, All Things Divine, describes the Divine class, which is the highest class possible. There are only three Divine classes, the Hero, the Archsage, and the Mythos. Only one Hero, one Archsage, and one Mythos can exist at a time.
The Hero is the highest class possible for Recruits. Heroes have absolute offense and defense and are masters of weapons, from daggers and spears to swords and lances. A Hero has a special skill called Hero’s Might that allows them to inspire other units. It is also because of this skill that Heroes tend to vanish from their responsibilities and hide away in peaceful areas.
The Archsage is the ultimate class for Pupils. Archsages have ultimate mastery of magic, capable of using all the elements simultaneously and casting a thousand spells and magical commands within a snap of their fingers. Archsages has a special skill called Heavenly Wisdom that gives them the power to shape the world to their bidding. It is also because of this skill that Archsages retreat to Fensir, the nation closest to the northern wastelands, where a great secret is hidden.
The Mythos is the greatest aspiration of Apprentices. Mythoses have powerful skills that gives them invincibility. They are experts in long range and specialized attacks that terminate their targets before they are even seen. Their set of skills are numerous that there are no records of their special skills.
Along with the Divine classes are the Divine weapons. These weapons wield immense power that bend the laws of nature. Like the Divine classes, there are only three Divine weapons that are said to be forged and created by the deities of Reversia, yet the truth is different. However, unlike those with Divine classes, these weapons are indestructible and have withstood the test of time.
The first Divine weapon is Mairnsleif, meaning “Marina’s Legacy”. It is named after Marina, the first Hero of Reversia. Mairnsleif has the ability to turn into any weapon that its wielder wishes to transform. From a dagger to a lance, it can transform into anything that suits the battle. Legend says that Marina used the sword to defeat Behemoth, bringing peace to the continent, and establishing the ancient kingdom of Xinfonia.
The second weapon is Aureloia, the eye of magic. It absorbs all magical attacks, protecting its wielder and sending back the magical attack tenfold. During the Scourge Ages at the battle of the Vomelisse mountains, modern day northern Fensir, Aureloia absorbed all the Imperial magics that were used against Maramus, the first Archsage, and sent it back creating the wasteland that is known today.
The third weapon is Mythos, the ultimate. This weapon is completely shrouded its mystery and its true form is only known to the Mythos who wielded it.
I close the book and turn to Keith who is busy reading another book.
Are the Divine weapons the answer?
“Josh, take a look at this,” he shows me a page of a book. “It tells the story of the Outsiders or the people who have been transported to Reversia.”
The Outsiders are people from other worlds. The are summoned by either the forces of Reversia or the power of the Archsage. Maramus, the first Archsage, summoned the first Outsider. It is in relation to a danger that Reversia faces, which can only be solved by external help. However, Maramus can feel the danger, yet he cannot see it nor know what it is. The first Outsider lived and passed in Reversia and as kingdoms and empires fell, other Outsiders were summoned.
“A danger that Reversia faces?” I wonder to myself.
“How great a danger could it be if the first Archsage himself knew that only external help could solve it?” Keith ponders.
What could this danger mean?
There are so many things that I learned today. One of those is the reason why we are summoned here. Reversia faces a danger that the first Archsage felt but doesn’t know.
If he could only feel it, then why summon us if it was only a feeling? Could that have been a feeling too grave? Did he sense the end of the world?
After exhausting myself, we left the dimension of the forbidden collection and thanked the librarian. We take our leave, but she stops us and teleported us out of the great library. From the top, we got back to the entrance, where Melojean, Franz, and the others waited. It is already late afternoon. The sun is about to set.
“You finally made it back!” Melojean runs towards us with open arms. She gives us a tight embrace.
“I’m so glad, you’re safe,” Franz approaches me and looks at me intently.
“How long were we in the library?” Keith asks.
“Five days,” Melojean answers.
“Five days!” Keith was dumbfounded. “It took us that long? Anyway, how did you get out safely?”
“I have my ways,” Melojean smiles.
“You two must be tired. We should head back to the inn now,” Franz suggests.
“So Keith, what is the forbidden collection like? Did it drive you mad? Was the information too great?” Melojean begins asking Keith a barrage of questions.
“You guys go on ahead,” Keith tells me and Franz. “I’ll return to the inn later.”
Franz and I walk quietly back to the inn. He smiled all the way back. I can see relief and joy in his face, whenever I catch him staring at me. When we made it back, I put sleeping Zealle on my bed and went for a hot bath. My body is fatigued from all of the travelling, fighting, and knowing. Suddenly, somebody knocks on the door.
“Who is it?” I ask.
“It’s me, Franz. Listen, please come down to the river after your bath.”
“I will,” I reply.
I finish and follow Franz’s instruction. When I exit the inn, I see him holding a bouquet of flowers near a candlelit table with two chairs. Bards played their harp and colored the mood. I approach Franz. He was wearing a formal outfit, that I could not begin to describe. He looks perfect. I could feel my heart racing. My legs and knees could barely move. I suddenly make a misstep and trip, but Franz was able to catch me before I fell.
“Are you alright?” His voice is sweeter than honey.
“I’m fine,” I clear my throat.
I accept his flowers and sit on the chair across him. Our meal is served by the staff of the inn. They were all in on this plan. Franz looks at me like I am a shining jewel, but I could not keep eye contact with him. I would look at his serene blue eyes for a second, only to redirect them to the river or to the bard behind him.
“Th-th-th-thank you for this wonderful dinner,” I smile.
“I am happy that we could spend time together,” he replies.
“But we always spend time together,” I answer.
“That’s not what I meant,” Franz blushes. He looks really cute when he blushes. His cheeks turn read and the crests of his ears become rosy.
We take a bite at our dinner, engaging in small talk as we did.
“Have you found what you sought?” Franz asks.
“I have. In fact, I think I have learned more than what I just wanted to learn,” I answer. “And because of that, I need your help, Franz.”
“You don’t need to ask,” he answers. “I will be by your side always!”
“Well, what do we have here?” I can hear Keith’s voice from a distance. “Having dinner without me? That’s not fair!” Keith rushes over and spoils the entire mood. Franz could not do anything but smile as Keith came and ruined everything that he prepared. The bards and the staff all glared at him for being the third wheel.
Keith eats my portion and finishes Franz’s. He grabs a chair from the inn and sits with us. After eating dinner, he suddenly leaned back and dozed off.
“Shall we go somewhere?” Franz stands up and reaches out his hand.
“Of course,” I accept his hand.
We walk along the river under the moonlit and starry night sky. The bards continue their song. We walk for some time, until I started to feel tired. I lean against Franz as we walked. His warmth, his comfort, I want to sleep on his shoulder. My eyes slowly closed with Franz’s comforting arms around me.
