Adaline’s POV
So it seems I’ll be going to the werewolf kingdom, which means I’ll have a hard time staying away from Elijah. We will be setting off in two days, to head there, it’s been two days since the meeting and I’ve successfully avoided Elijah so far. I don’t know what to do about him, I feel this longing for him in my heart and soul. I think I will need to speak to my Father about this because I don’t know what to do. I can’t be with him but I can’t be without him.
I walk towards my father’s office, and just as I am about to knock on the door he opens it, “Ahh Ada, just the person I wanted to see, come in.” He says. I step into his office and as usual, always find it surprising and mesmerising, that everything is done in whites and creams and beiges, it always takes me by surprise, that one of the oldest vampires alive has such a light, welcoming and cosy office. I take a seat on one of the couches, as my father sits on the other. He pours some tea, and as I look at him, he sighs “Yes Ada it’s Yorkshire tea, we don’t buy any other normal tea now” I smile as I remember the amount of times I sat and refused tea because it tasted disgusting and didn’t smell nice. “Father I have something to tell you, I don’t know how I feel about it. I need you to keep an open mind as I don’t know how you’ll react” I say whilst looking at my hands. “Hahaha, I already know Ada, don’t worry. Elijah is a strong wolf, and has some things he doesn’t know about himself, just like you, my dear.” “What?! Some things I don’t know about myself? What do you mean?” I reply feeling confused. “There’s a particular piece of history I have hidden from you my Ada, now seems the right time to tell you about it since you’ve found your mate” he replies.
I sit in shock, he laughs “I’ve known since you were five little one, there’s a lot I need to tell you before your birthday” he gets up and opens his little hot trolley he has stashed in the corner, pulling out fresh pasta with meatballs and fresh ciabatta garlic bread with cheese. Oh, the smell is divine, “let’s eat and then I shall tell you the story from the beginning” he says. We eat in silence, it’s funny how everyone thinks vampires can’t eat real food, and survive just on blood, we can eat any food, blood and raw meat are just a bit more nutritious for our bodies, it gives us the extra energy to perform some of our more tasking abilities if we have them.
Once we’ve finished my father pulls out a book from the shelves, it’s a large and tattered book, with golden embossing on it, in a beautiful intricate design. “This book has your ancestry inside, and this” he pulls out a small leather bound a5 size black book “has the prophecies in” he sits next to me and looks into my eyes “This is where you need to keep an open mind Ada.”
He opens the prophecy book first and shows me a particular one, *thereafter the mating ritual, the one who has been hidden as pure blood will start the accent into their true form gaining powers previously unheard of, the powers of a sorcerer, a werewolf and vampire all in one body, will save or ruin the world. Only after finding the thing which is lost, will the world be saved” I read aloud, my father turns some pages whilst I sit confused, the next one he points to reads *During the war a king will be slain, whilst the kingdom mourns his ancient blood will be used to end the war* “what does this all mean father?” I question. He sighs “All will become clear when I show you our ancestors” he opens the huge book and finds our names, I look at him, my name and Eros, above that is my father and mother, above my father, are his parents Nicklaus and Esther. My mother’s side, her parents, Freya and Lyacon... “Freya Alfson?” I question “The Freya Alfson?” “Yes darling one of the old pure-blood vampires” my father replies. “And Lyacon Corbyn, a very pure-blooded hybrid of the most powerful witch and werewolf of the time. Your mother inherited some magical powers from the witch side but no wolf, you are nearing your 21st Birthday which means you’ll gain your pure-blooded wolf and magic all in one”
“What?” I breathe, no way can this be true. How? How did I not know this?!
“I know this is a lot to take in, you showed the signs from birth, Eros has a little magic in him but it’s energy magic only, that’s why he doesn’t tire when all others do, his vampire side draws on his energy magic.” He says.
I sit there astounded, am I who the prophecy is talking about?
“When you go with Amos, Melinda will be coming to teach you as much as she can on controlling your magic, Amos knows about the prophecy, we just don’t know if it’s me or him that will have to die,” my father says “when the war breaks out myself and Amos need to be there whoever is killed you need to drain their blood, so the enemy cannot have it we are both direct descendants to the original vampire and wolf.” He sighs.
I sit, not knowing what to think, never mind what to say. Why am I getting all this responsibility? “I don’t think I can do all this Father” I finally whisper. “Do not fret, my child, you are more than ready to take on this task, you are a pure blood of all three, vampire, wolf and witch.” He says confidently, “There is a gift in your room, that I would like you to wear at all times, it will help harness your power. It also has protective spells cast to help you, I shall see you in around a month or so my beautiful Adaline.”
Back in my room I slowly walk over to the box placed delicately on my bed, almost as if it will erupt into a fearsome foe. I take it in both hands, the beautiful Amethyst colour, the silky feeling, as I lift the kid I am awed at the necklace and ring. They were my mothers. The ring is platinum, with a beautiful solitaire emerald in the middle, and small crystal clear diamonds decorate the rest of the top of the band. The necklace is also not over the top, a beautiful pendant of emerald, amethyst and diamonds nestled together into a beautiful flower. As I touch them I feel tingles go up my arm and know that these are powerful enough without me, I slowly put them on and admire them in the mirror, so many memories of my mother come back to me in this one moment, I force back the tears. It will be a long road ahead without me breaking down over the past...
