"Say you're sorry! Say it!" Molly shouted, her knee pressing down on Nina’s face.
"Get off me you crazy b***h!" Nina spat.
Molly smirked and pressed harder, biting her lower lip in satisfaction.
"Arghh!" Nina screamed, a tear sliding down her cheek.
"Don't. You. Ever. Spit. Trash. From. Your. Mouth. Again. Ever!" Molly hissed, her words dripping with venom.
"Stop! Arghh! It hurts!" Nina cried, squirming on the floor. "Help!"
The doctor shook off his shock and rushed over, grabbing Molly under the arms and pulling her away.
"Let me go! I'm not done with her yet!" Molly yelled, trying to shake free from his grip.
"Molly, stop!" the doctor commanded, his tone firm as he gave her a stern look.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Just minutes ago, this small woman could barely stay conscious. How had she suddenly found the strength to start a fight? He fought to keep Molly contained against his chest, staring at her with a mix of confusion and disbelief.
Meanwhile, Nina sat up on the floor, rubbing her bruised cheek and spitting blood into a tissue. "What the hell is wrong with you? I was wrong. You're not a brat, you're insane!"
Molly tried to lunge at her again, but the doctor held her back. "Molly, stop it!" he commanded through gritted teeth. Molly turned her glare toward Nina, her eyes filled with rage.
"Molly, I’m talking to you!" the doctor said, trying to get her attention.
"Didn't you hear her? Or are you deaf too? She not only called me a brat, but a b***h, and insane!" Molly barked.
"And I think you've proved my point?" Nina shot back, smirking.
"See? She’s still calling me names! I need to show her I’m more than that!" Molly said stubbornly, biting her lip in frustration.
The doctor couldn’t help but shake his head in frustration at the two women. He needed to take control of the situation. His eyes went to the nurse who was still eyeing his patient with dangerous intent.
"Nurse Nina, please stay here, I'll be back in a moment." For a moment, he didn't think the woman was going to agree but she finally gave a terse nod.
"Molly, I don’t think your body’s healed yet.. You’re only making things worse. You need to come with me." He pulled Molly from the room, watching the nurse over his shoulder.
Nina sighed and slowly got up, still holding her cheek. When the doctor and the crazy woman were gone, she walked over to the mirror by the bedside to check the damage. Her fists clenched in anger when she saw the red mark on her cheek. "That fool is going to taste my fist soon. By the time I’m done with her, she’ll know to stay in her lane and away from my man!" she growled,
The door creaked open, and Nina turned to see the doctor step back into the room. Closing the door behind him, his concerned gaze never left her. "Nina, are you alright?" he asked softly.
She covered her face with her hands and burst into tears. Alarmed, he walked over quickly, placing his hands gently on her shoulders. "Nina? Are you okay?"
"Okay?" She snapped, her tearful eyes locking onto his. "Look at what that fool did to my face! How can I possibly be okay?"
He glanced at her cheek, noticing it was just a minor red mark. There wasn't any broken skin. "It’s not that bad, Nina. A little ice should take care of it," he reassured her.
"Not that bad? So, you’re not going to do anything toher? Are you seriously taking her side?" she shot back angrily.
"I’m not supporting what she did," he replied calmly. "But you know she’s sick and confronting her won’t help anyone."
Nina tried to soften her expression as she looked at him. "Alec…" she said softly, using his name.
His brows raised slightly, surprised. "I know we’re on duty, and I shouldn’t call you by your name, but I couldn’t resist," she admitted, her tone tender. She placed her hand on his arm, gazing into his eyes with a faint smile. "Alec, you've got to see that girl is really dangerous. I want you to stay away from her, okay? You might be the next person she hurts, and I’d have a heart attack if she ever lays a hand on you," she said, her tone firm.
Alec lowered his eyes, avoiding her gaze. "I'm her doctor, Nina. I can't stay away from her, and you know that," he replied calmly.
"You're her doctor, Alec. Then it should only be a doctor-patient relationship—nothing more. You're creating this...connection with her, and I can't stand it. Why did you have to hug her like that? That wasn't professional at all."
"Nina, you're talking like you're my wife or something. Why does hugging someone bother you so much? Huh? Is she the first girl I've hugged?" Alec snapped, his voice tinged with irritation. "She was distraught. It didn't mean anything."
Nina pressed her lips together, looking away. "Ow!" she suddenly exclaimed, holding her cheek.
Alec's brow furrowed in confusion.
"I'm sure my jaw is starting to swell. It hurts," she mumbled.
"What?" He blinked, unsure if he heard her correctly.
"It hurts... it's starting to hurt," she said dramatically, falling against his chest. Alec instinctively caught her.
"Please, Alec, help me. Do something," she pleaded.
Alec frowned, wondering how a little red mark could hurt this much. He was pretty sure she was faking but he decided not to call her on it, this time. He gently placed her on the bed, grabbed the med kit, and sat beside her.
"This is worse than a toothache, Alec. That witch might have broken my jaw! She had her whole fat body on top of me," Nina whined, still pressing her cheek.
"Just stay still and let me look at it, okay?" he said, and she reluctantly lowered her hand.
Alec found a very small scratch and applied ointment to it. As he worked, Nina suddenly placed her hand over his, gazing at him. Alec met her eyes with a puzzled look. She scooted closer, her hand moving to his thigh.
"You're so caring, Alec. Thanks for existing and being here for me," she said dreamily, smiling up at him.
"Would you let me finish before starting your usual drama again?" he asked, exasperated. She grinned cheekily before wrapping her arms around him and resting her head on his chest.
Alec sighed, realizing she was exaggerating her injury. Now, he was stuck between pushing her away or letting her have her moment.
Just then, the door creaked open. Molly stepped in but froze when she saw them embracing. She hesitated, fidgeting awkwardly, before turning away.
"Molly?" Alec called, quickly stepping back and pushing Nina away. He moved toward Molly, concern etched on his face.
Molly turned around, holding a test paper in her hands. "They ran the tests on me that you wanted," she said quietly.
Alec took the paper from her and scanned its contents. "These are excellent. No permanent damage," he said, looking up at her with a smile.
"Really? " she asked, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
"Yup. Just the bumps and bruises," he confirmed. "You can be discharged from the hospital this evening."
"Discharged? This evening? Oh..." Molly's smile faded slightly as she rubbed her arm nervously.
"You don't have a home, do you?" Alec asked gently.
Molly gave a small, hesitant nod. He sighed, glancing at the papers once more, trying to gather his thoughts before looking back at her. His first thought was to take her home with him and keep her safe. And before he thought it through, he heard his voice saying, "I'd offer to come let you stay at my house but it would be weird because I live alone, and—"
"I-I don’t mind! I can help you clean, I can cook too. I can wash your coat... I-I can do anything to earn my keep. I can even sleep in your garage if you don’t want me in the house. I just need somewhere to feel safe," she said quickly, her voice trembling with desperation.
Nina got up from the bed and walked toward them, her expression darkening as she gave Alec a sharp stare. "Don’t tell me you’re actually thinking of taking this, this...patient to your home?" she spat, her anger clear.
"What I do or don't do is none of your business Nurse Nina?" Alec asked coolly, his voice calm but firm.
Nina’s jaw dropped as she turned her astonished gaze toward Molly, who smiled innocently, tilting her head slightly to the side.
"No, this can’t be happening. No!" Nina exclaimed before gasping dramatically and collapsing to the floor.
