In the opulent mansion nestled on the outskirts of town, Mabel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, welcomed their daughter as she walked in with open arms. The grandeur of their home reflected Mr. Thompson's success as a retired business tycoon who had entrusted his company to his only heir, Mabel. As Mabel entered the foyer, her mother greeted her with a soft kiss on the cheeks, her eyes shimmering with pride. "My dear Mabel, you look radiant," Mrs. Thompson exclaimed, enveloping her daughter in a warm embrace. Beside Mabel stood Seth, her fiancΓ©, his demeanor respectful and poised. He greeted Mr. Thompson with a bow, a gesture of deference to the man who had built an empire from the ground up. Mr. Thompson, though stern in appearance, returned the gesture with a firm handshake, his eyes assessing Seth with a keen gaze. "Welcome, Seth," he said, his voice commanding yet tinged with a hint of warmth. "You have my daughter's heart, and that is no small feat." Seth nodded, his expression earnest as he met Mr. Thompson's gaze. "Thank you, sir," he replied, his words laced with sincerity. "I assure you, I will do everything in my power to support Mabel and honor the legacy of your company." Mr. Thompson's demeanor softened, a glimmer of approval shining in his eyes. He had built his empire with determination and grit, and now he entrusted its future to his daughter and her chosen partner. As they moved into the elegant dining room, adorned with crystal chandeliers and polished mahogany furniture, Mr. Thompson raised his glass in a toast. "To family, and to the future," he declared, his voice resonating with pride and anticipation. Mabel glanced at Seth, her heart swelling with love and gratitude. In the embrace of her family's legacy and the promise of a future with Seth by her side, she knew that she was ready to embrace whatever the future held. Mabel and Seth slipped away from her parents downstairs, needing a quiet place to talk. Despite the big house and plenty of help around, Mabel trusted Annie, a close friend among the staff, to bring them coffee. They entered a beautiful arranged room upstairs, where Mabel sat down to take off her earrings, looking at Seth. She wondered why he lingered by the door instead of joining her. "Why not come in and sit down?" Mabel asked, puzzled. Seth hesitated, then stepped inside, explaining softly, "I was nervous about what we need to talk about. But if you're here with me, I'm ready to face it." Mabel smiled, taking his hand. "We'll get through it together," she assured him. "Let's be honest with each other, no matter how tough it gets. Our love can handle it." And so, hand in hand, Mabel and Seth started their conversation, knowing that honesty was the key to keeping their relationship strong. * * * Jane had recently started helping out at her aunt's shop, eager to lend a hand in selling her goods. But just as she was assisting a customer, the tranquility of the moment shattered when her aunt stormed in, her face twisted with fury. "The boys have started again!" her aunt exclaimed, her voice sharp with frustration. "I just got a call from their workplace, saying they're nowhere to be found. I'm tired of their nonchalant attitude!" Jane quickly stepped in, trying to calm her aunt's rising anger. "Don't worry, Auntie," she said soothingly. "Let me try reaching Felicia, John's girlfriend. She might know something about where they've gone off to." With a nod of agreement, her aunt reluctantly allowed Jane to take charge of the situation. Jane hurriedly dialed Felicia's number, her heart pounding with anticipation. After a few rings, Felicia finally picked up. "Hello?" came Felicia's voice on the other end. "Hi, Felicia, it's Jane," Jane said quickly. "Have you seen John or Tony around? My aunt just got a call from their workplace saying they're missing." There was a brief pause before Felicia responded, her tone hesitant. "Um, actually, they stopped by earlier," she admitted reluctantly. "But they left in a hurry, saying something about meeting up with some friends. I'm not sure where they went." Jane's heart sank at the news, but she knew she had to relay it to her aunt. Thanking Felicia, she hung up the phone and turned to her aunt with a solemn expression. "They were with Felicia earlier," Jane explained gently. "But they left suddenly to meet up with friends. I'll keep trying to reach them and make sure they're okay." Her aunt sighed, her anger dissipating into resignation. "Those boys," she muttered. "Always causing trouble. Joshua and his brothers trudged through the dusty streets, their steps heavy with uncertainty. As they walked, Joshua turned to his brothers, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "What's left for us now that we've decided to leave the site?" he asked, searching for answers amidst the bleakness. John shook his head resolutely. "I don't know, but one thing's for sure - we're not going back to that site," he declared, his voice firm with conviction. Tony, piped up with a pang of hunger in his voice. "We should've grabbed some food from Felicia while we had the chance," he lamented, his stomach rumbling. John shot him a stern look, silencing his unfinished sentence with a single glance. Amidst their pondering, Joshua caught sight of a poster on the front gate. "Workers wanted for a car wash," it proclaimed in bold letters. But John and Tony shook their heads in unison, rejecting the idea. "We're not going to do that," John declared, his voice tinged with determination. "We'd rather go back to Auntie's place." As the evening shadows grew longer, Joshua and his brothers knew they had no choice but to return home. With heavy hearts, they trudged back, the weight of disappointment hanging over them like a cloud. As they approached their aunt's house, darkness shrouded the surroundings, masking their return. With stealthy footsteps, they crept towards the entrance, hoping to slip inside unnoticed. But as they pushed the door open, a sudden flood of light revealed their presence, and their aunt's stern gaze met theirs. In an instant, fear gripped their hearts, and a collective scream pierced the silence of the night. Their aunt wasted no time in asserting her authority, grabbing Joshua firmly by the ear with a grip that spoke of years of discipline. "Ow, ow, it hurts, Aunt!" Joshua cried out, his voice laced with pain as his aunt's hand connected with his back in a resounding slap, causing him to double over in agony, clutching his ear. With a voice that brooked no argument, their aunt admonished them. "You, as the eldest, should know better than to let these boys go astray," she scolded, her words sharp with disappointment. "But instead, all of you are wandering aimlessly, without a care for your responsibilities." John and Tony, sensing an opportunity to escape the brunt of their aunt's wrath, made a dash for the safety of the house. But their aunt's voice stopped them in their tracks. "Oh no, you two aren't getting off that easy," she declared, her tone unwavering. "From this moment on, you are not allowed to eat my food if you refuse to contribute to this household." Tony, desperate to soften his mother's resolve, pleaded with her, his hand clasping hers in a gesture of supplication. But his pleas fell on deaf ears as she withdrew her hand, her resolve unyielding. "You need to take responsibility, Tony," she admonished, her voice tinged with sadness. "We barely have enough to get by, and your laziness only makes things harder for Jane and me." Seth's father sat outside their five-bedroom apartment, the evening sun casting a warm glow on the luxurious surroundings. Despite their comfortable lifestyle, it not in comparison to the opulent mansion where Mabel, Seth's love interest, resided. Seth's father was a successful business tycoon in his own right, though not quite on the same level as Mabel's father. As he relaxed in his swinging chair, engrossed in the day's newspaper, his daughter Jasmine Tall and slender young lady in her late 20s arrived in a flurry of extravagance. Known for her lavish lifestyle, she drove in recklessly, berating the gatekeeper unnecessarily. Unaware of her father's presence, she barged in, complaining about her car's faults. "Oh, Dad, can you believe this car is already acting up?" Jasmine exclaimed, her frustration evident. Her father sighed, accustomed to her materialistic tendencies. "You can tell Seth to change it for you," he replied calmly. Jasmine knew better than to expect her brother to indulge her whims. Dismissing her father's suggestion, she stormed inside, clutching her designer bag. Not long after, Seth arrived, greeted his father warmly, and accepted his offer of a seat. As they exchanged pleasantries, Seth shared details of his day, mentioning spending time with Mabel. His father's face lit up at the mention of Mabel. "It's wonderful that you and Mabel are growing closer. You should set a date for your wedding and unite our families," he suggested, his eyes glistening with pride. Seth nodded, explaining that they were working on it, but Mabel was preoccupied with work and also preparing for the upcoming ceremony that will take place in her father's company soon. His father's mood darkened momentarily as he lamented the absence of Seth's mother, longing for her presence during such joyous occasions. Assuring his father that he was fine and promising to take care of him and Jasmine, Seth excused himself to change. However, his peace was short-lived as Jasmine, his sister barged into his room unannounced, startling him and abruptly ending his phone call. Reprimanding her for her lack of manners, Seth was met with Jasmine characteristic bluntness. Unfazed, he quickly changed the subject, unwilling to entertain her demand for a new car. With a smile, he ushered her out, closing the door behind her, restoring the tranquility of his sanctuary.
