The next morning, I wake up to a Google alert about Kieran. This time, though, the article isn’t just about Kieran; it’s about me and Kieran. It’s informing the public that we have officially broken up. I scan the article with a heavy heart for direct quotations from Kieran, but there aren’t any. There are a few “sources close to him” who give vague speculations about us having been “incompatible because of our vastly different backgrounds,” which is pretty amusing when you think about just how similar our original backgrounds really are. All in all, I don’t get the sense that the reporter talked to anyone close to Kieran or myself; they just clocked that Kieran and I haven’t spoken in weeks and made up the rest.
