Mia carefully examines Leon and realizes that his condition is indeed quite severe.
His eyes are still bloodshot. Several wounds from combat mark his face, the dried blood standing out starkly against his pale skin. His combat uniform is torn and tattered, and beneath the damaged fabric, she can see numerous wounds crisscrossing his body.
Mia looks at him and speaks softly.
“Hello, Leon. My name is Mia. I’m a doctor at the White Tower Mental Health Center. Captain Eric asks me to come here to treat you.”
She deliberately keeps her voice calm and gentle.
“Your condition is very serious. Your mental world has collapsed, your mental power is leaking out, and you also have numerous external injuries. I’m going to treat your physical injuries first. Please relax. I’m not going to hurt you.”
As she speaks, Mia uses her mental link to tell the snowy owl to keep singing.
The ethereal song continues to echo through the room.
Mia, meanwhile, takes one slow step after another toward Leon’s bed.
Leon’s eyes remain fixed on her.
His hands slowly curl into fists, his knuckles turning slightly white from the force. His entire body gradually tenses, like a beast preparing to pounce.
Mia does not stop.
Just as she is about to reach the bedside—
A huge figure suddenly bursts from Leon’s forehead!
Mia barely has time to react before the figure slams into her and knocks her to the ground.
“Ah!”
The impact makes her cry out in pain.
The next second, a dangerous presence rushes toward her.
Mia immediately raises a mental barrier.
Bang!
Sharp fangs slam against the barrier with a grating impact.
Only then does Mia finally see what is pinning her down.
It is a massive white wolf.
Its body is several times larger than that of an ordinary wolf. Its two powerful forelegs press firmly against Mia’s shoulders, while its sharp fangs hover beside her neck, searching for the perfect place to bite.
Mia can even feel the heat of its breath against her skin.
The snowy owl senses that its master is under attack and immediately stops singing.
It flaps its wings and flies toward the wolf.
Without hesitation, it pecks at the wolf’s eyes.
The wolf recoils in pain and takes several steps backward.
The pressure holding Mia down disappears.
Mia seizes the opportunity and quickly rolls away from it.
She bites down on her index finger, draws blood, and swiftly smears it across the surface of the disc.
Then she rushes toward the wolf.
Slap!
The disc strikes the wolf directly on the forehead.
In an instant, Mia’s mental power pours continuously into the wolf’s body through her finger and the disc.
The wolf lets out a low growl, baring its sharp fangs as it tries to attack again.
But the powerful mental force holds it firmly in place, leaving it unable to move forward.
Mia ignores its struggle and focuses on examining its condition.
Soon, she notices something wrong.
The wolf’s eyes are still bloodshot, and its body is covered in wounds of various sizes.
The most serious injury is on its abdomen.
A gaping wound nearly twenty centimeters long pierces through its body. Heavy mental contamination clings to the wound, and the edges have already begun to turn black.
Mia’s brows immediately furrow.
No wonder it is so aggressive.
The mental contamination has invaded its wounds.
If she doesn’t discover it in time, once the contamination completely spreads through the spirit animal’s body, it might become a Contaminant itself.
Mia takes a deep breath and concentrates.
She summons her mental power and begins slowly clearing the contamination from the wound.
The mental contamination clings to the injury like black sludge.
Every bit she removes consumes a considerable amount of mental power.
Time passes slowly.
Fine beads of sweat appear on Mia’s forehead, and her face grows increasingly pale.
Half an hour later, the last trace of mental contamination finally disappears from the wound.
Mia lets out a long breath.
She can feel that she has already used a considerable amount of her mental power, but she still forces herself to calm the wolf.
“I’ve removed all the mental contamination.”
Her voice is slightly tired, but still gentle.
“You’re fine now. Get some rest, and you’ll recover soon.”
She looks at the wolf and speaks softly.
“Go back to your master.”
With that, Mia slowly releases her mental restraint.
The wolf does not leave immediately.
It stands there, the red in its eyes gradually fading until they return to their normal gray-brown color.
It straightens itself and slowly approaches Mia.
Mia does not retreat.
She carefully watches its movements.
Seeing that it shows no intention of attacking, Mia tries to communicate with it.
“Is there anywhere else that hurts?”
The wolf does not respond.
It stops in front of Mia and looks past her, fixing its gaze on the snowy owl perched on her shoulder.
The snowy owl is connected to Mia’s mind.
It gives two soft calls, conveying Mia’s meaning to the wolf.
The wolf raises its snout and gently sniffs Mia’s scent.
Then it turns around and walks toward Leon.
The next second—
A white blur flashes.
The wolf instantly disappears into Leon’s forehead.
Mia turns around and looks at Leon lying on the bed.
“Leon, I’ve just treated your spirit animal’s injuries.”
Her voice remains gentle.
“Now I’m going to treat your physical wounds. Is that okay? Relax. I mean you no harm.”
Leon says nothing.
But the redness in his eyes has visibly faded, and his previously tense body has relaxed slightly.
Mia picks up her medical case and finally manages to approach Leon’s bedside.
She opens the case and takes out bandages, alcohol, scissors, and other medical supplies before beginning to treat his wounds.
She starts with the injuries on Leon’s face.
Even when the alcohol touches the wounds during the cleaning process, Leon does not so much as frown.
From beginning to end, he simply watches Mia in silence.
His eyes never leave her.
Next come the wounds on his body.
Mia cuts open his damaged combat uniform, carefully cleans the wounds, disinfects them, applies healing ointment, and finally wraps them one by one with bandages.
By the time she finishes treating all the wounds, Mia is covered in sweat.
She straightens up and slowly exhales.
“Leon, that’s all for today.”
She puts away the medical supplies.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Leon still does not respond.
He simply lies on the hospital bed, silently watching her.
Mia turns and leaves the room.
As soon as she steps outside, she sees Eric waiting for her.
Eric is leaning against the wall.
The moment he sees Mia, he immediately straightens and hurries toward her.
“How is Leon?”
There is obvious tension in his voice.
Mia answers,
“Overall, his condition is still manageable.”
She pauses before continuing.
“Leon has twenty-seven external injuries in total. I’ve treated all of them.”
“His spirit animal—the wolf—has twelve injuries of varying severity, along with moderate mental contamination. I’ve completely removed the contamination from his spirit animal.”
Eric visibly relaxes upon hearing this.
But Mia’s next words make his expression serious again.
“As for his leaking mental power, I currently have a way to counter it.”
Mia looks at him.
“Based on the current intensity of his mental power leakage, I’ve made a preliminary assessment that the collapse of Leon’s mental world has reached a severe level.”
“So, my next treatment plan is to enter Leon’s mental world and see what’s actually happening inside.”
Eric still looks relieved during the first half of her explanation.
But the moment he hears the last sentence, his expression changes.
“You’re planning to enter Leon’s mental world?”
His brows knit together.
“Isn’t entering a mental world that has already collapsed extremely dangerous?”
Mia nods.
“It is.”
She does not deny it.
“But I promised you that I would try to save Leon.”
Mia looks at Eric, her voice calm.
“Don’t worry. Even if I can’t save Leon, I have a way to get out safely.”
Only then does Eric relax slightly.
He glances at Mia, who is clearly exhausted.
“Good.”
“You’ve had a long day. I’ll take you home.”
Mia gives him a small smile.
“Thank you.”
