A distant blue sky, a floating castle that oversee the entire map, busy entities around of different classes and races, (sigh) it’s been a while since I walked the old pavement of this little town; the meeting place of trade and unifying development with no racial discriminations for everyone. Well, peace may not be too ideal seeing these different races of creatures in harmony with each other and brimming with life and love. I stopped for a moment and stared at the small buildings around me; weaponries, café’s, magic shops, and a whole lot more. This world is really a manifestation of peace and love, where everyone is trying to live in perfect harmony with each other.
I looked up at the floating castle and its really like a beautiful diadem of this dimension. It glitters as the rays strike through it though it’s a twilight colored castle in the air. It has no walls to surround it but it has a magical barrier invisible to the n***d eyes that protects it from any attempt of destruction. Only those authorized are able to enter in that castle, and fortunate enough is me to be included in the number. The castle serves as the meeting place of every archangels together with our head the supreme angel. Today, we were summoned again in that castle to discuss some matters concerning the affairs in the other dimensions.
Inside the Castle…
“I guess you already knew why you were summoned in this place?”, a firm and thundering voice spoke as he slowly descends from the stairs from that supposed to be throne of the castle.
Everyone is seated at both sides of a long table adorned with colorful mantle made from the finest magical resources while looking at the entity that slowly descends from the throne. He’s a man of quite an age, with a rosy pale face, with a shoulder level white hair, a normal size of body and fair height, covered in a dazzling golden armor with a golden cross at the chest part with a ruby colored gem at the center of the cross, mixed with space night colored inners, with six glowing fiery red wings, sun ray like ornaments at the back of his neck, and on his left hand is a majestic longsword that is almost entirely gold in color, including the handle. The crossguard is shaped like a small set of wings and has a small, triangle-like plate with three red gems on it. Circling around his body are two lights – green and blue colored orbs that goes up and down every now and then. He’s our leader, the supreme angel.
“There’s a lot of disruptions again in the space and time rift lately and it’s getting more and more alarming each day added to the recent reports that a village from a far dimension was destroyed by the invasion of the forces of darkness.” He added.
“We are still yet to confirm those reports but we have not to take them lightly.”, a voice from nowhere uttered and suddenly appeared at the side of the supreme angel. The archangel of fate, the secretary of the head, my archenemy in terms of beliefs and convictions. He’s of a young age as me with fair to white complexion, a fair height and body composure. A plated sparkling white armor with some golden strips on the outer covers his whole body and a wing-like band on his head keeps his long raven black hair from swaying thru his face. On his back are his four wings that gleams and on his right arm he holds a golden staff with some peculiar designs on it.
“I want you all to investigate and be with the other dimensions to confirm these recent attacks and the distortion in space and time.” A command given to us by our supreme head.
Everyone was given their assigned dimension to watch and clear instructions on what to do.
“Archangel of love, you will be assigned to guard over the human world they called as earth. But make sure you won’t make so much interventions in the flow of events there to avoid disturbances in the dimensional harmony. Understood?”
“Yes, as you command.” I answered back looking at him.
Earth huh, hmm… I wonder how that world looks like…
After that meeting ended, I went to the spot I used to stay to let time passed by. Laying flat at the grass covered ground of that hills, surrounded with blooming floras while their delicate petals were slowly blown by the cold touches of the wind, with the sun trying to illuminate that perfect scene in nature, (sigh) this place is really a pacification haven after some wearisome moments.
“Beautiful, aren’t they?” A voice from behind spoke.
Judging from the tone of that speech I knew who he is, the...Archangel of Fate.
“Nahh, its strange having you here. What kind of odd spell brought you in this place?” I answered back
“Nothing that much, is it wrong for me to be here?”
“I didn’t mean things like that. Just say what you have in your sleeves.” I said
He sat beside me as the wind blew his raven black hair and made it sway for a little. He gazed at the petals being blown by the wind and started speaking.
“Say, what if one day, you’ve got to choose between the person you loved the most and the people you ought to save, whom will you gonna choose?”
“Huh? What’s with that all of a sudden?”
“Just give your response. Who will be the sacrificial lamb if that day would come?”
“Between the person I love and the people I ought to save…hmmm…I’m sorry but I cant give you the answer yet.” I replied.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t have someone, I loved the most yet, you idiot.” I threw him a scorning smile but he just keeps on staring at the wind-driven petals. Then he averted his stare on a certain direction and began pointing it to me.
“Look”, he said while pointing on the spot his gaze had stopped.
I saw a little butterfly struggling to free itself from the grasp of the sticky web of the hungry spider waiting to devour it at any moment.
“What’s with that then?” I curiously asked.
“Consider that scenario as the fate that awaits you someday. You will be standing between the line wherein you will have to choose with whom you gonna save and gonna sacrifice. The butterfly will be the humanity who will struggle to fight for its survival. The hungry spider will be the person you will love the most that will try to bring humanity into extinction. If you’re going to save the little butterfly, you will leave the hungry spider die into starvation, but if you choose the other way, you will forego the life of the butterfly to save the spider from dying. Now then, who will be saved and who will be the sacrificial one?”
I was left astonished on what he had spoken. I knew he had seen another premonition and were trying to give me a glimpse of what is about to happen. But I really hate the notion of predestination of fate. It strips everyone of his freedom to create his own life and future. I remained silent for a while and let that silence environs us.
“Well, I’m going now.” He said to break the silence between us.
“Hey, if someday that will gonna happen to me, I’ll save both by any means. I don’t care the impossibility of that but I swear here and now, Í’m gonna bring my words into fulfilment even if that means having my life taken away from me. I’ll crush that goddamn fate you’re fond of talking to and prove to you that we have the power to create our own future!” I answered back with firm convictions in my heart.
He smiled a little and said,
... wanting to save them both is a contradiction. What would you rather do? Keep deliberating? The butterfly will be eaten in the meantime…Our lives are predetermined by fate. No one can escape the grasp of it. All we can do is simply dance at the rhythm it dictates until the music stops for us….” He paused for a while and with a cold look speaks, “What if your greatest treasure turns out to be your greatest curse? I hope you can still say those ideal words of yours when you are on that destined time.”
“Living this way is my way of freedom!! I'm going to be a living proof that your fate isn't decided at birth!! So what about you?! You're going to kill yourself, the ultimate act of submission. Is that how much you want to please that fate which treated you like a tool in this field?! Why are you trying to hurt yourself?! If your will is that strong... Then shouldn't you be able to change your fate?!” I answered back.
“Save your sentiments my friend..the birds soaring freely with the wind…many would think they’re enjoying so much freedom…you might think of it as well…but no they’re not totally free..after all they are still destined to be chained under the same sky as ours…that’s how fate works for us…we are always bounded in its chains”
After the short conversation we had, he vanished with the wind and left me tongue tied on that place. That man, we will never really coincide with our convictions. But what he said left me flabbergasted for a moment and made my mind drift into somewhere hoping I will be able to find some answers.
(Sigh) “So be it…Come what may…”
I went to the library to gather some data concerning this world I was assigned. The library door is protected by some powerful spells to make it inaccessible to those who are not recognized and authorized to enter. It is to protect the great archive of books from being accessed by entities who wished to learn some sensitive and f*******n spells and stole some substantial data which will be used in plotting demise of a certain dimension. I uttered some magical words that serves as the password to enter that library and the door opened itself for me. As I enter the gigantic place of books, it brought some nostalgia on me. The place where there’s a swirling stairs that connects the ground floor to the second floor, the dome above is painted with some beautiful paintings of angels and other divine creatures, the shelves are neatly arranged together with the books, the study tables and chairs are shining as if they are always new, the floor are well polished that you can even see your own reflection on it. On the left side of the library is a sealed room wherein f*******n books of spells are kept.
“It’s been a while since you’ve been here.” A mellow voice speaks from behind.
I turned around and saw a familiar figure floating in a low-level height from the floor approaching me. She’s a slim, petite young lady with a long wavy red hair that reaches down to the lower middle of her back with two strands that surround her pinkish rose face. On her head is a crown like band with a garnet gem on it. She wore a dress which had white frills on the skirt and on the collar; a dark, short-sleeved blouse over the top of her dress; a light bow tied around her collar that fell upon her chest and a cape on her back with some beautiful designs engraved on it.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since I last entered this knowledge haven.” I smiled at her after uttering those words.
“What brought you here then?” She asked.
“Gotta find some useful data about this world called as earth. I wanted to learn every considerable whereabouts regarding this planet.”
“Oh well you’ve got some use of this book.”
“What book?” I asked.
She simply closed her eyes mumbling something as she extended her arms towards me and some holographic lights radiates from her hands then in a moment a book appeared in the midst of the light.
“Here, everything about that world is written there.” She gave the book to me and went back to the librarian’s desk.
“This will be a tough one to read, I guess. It’s so thick, an overnight won’t be enough for this.”
I just shake my head in despair and forced to read it as much as I can before my departure going to that world tomorrow. I skimmed thru the book and found some interesting topics on it.
Humans, huh…a paradox of evil and good. Well see you then tomorrow…
A hopeful smile I let out…
Archangel of Fate
“He’s as stubborn as always. How many times he had tried to defy fate and twisted the flow of events. (sigh) That master archangel of love, when will he learn to go with fate? . . . is love that always defiant of the power of fate? Can love really break the b*****e we had from the threads of destiny?” . . .
I didn’t notice that the supreme archangel was already behind me when I was so caught up with the thought of redefining the flow of fate after talking to the archangel of love.
“You looked so troubled and a bit mad? The same person again?” he uttered with some mixture of laughter.
“Yeah, as always. . .I don’t even know if giving up or obedience is still in him.”
“Wanna have some tea while talking about your clamors?” He asked.
“Yeah sure, that would be a nice time killer then.”
We went to the garden area and I sat at one of the chairs around the table at the gazebo at the heart of the magnificent garden in the castle. The supreme archangel seated in front of me with some teasing smiles on his face knowing how I was so irritated by the thought of my mortal nemesis.
The garden is full of various flowers of different colors at the peak of their blossoms. It’s like a floral maze with a gazebo at the center and a fountain in the front that sparkles as rays from the sun strikes thru it. Butterflies, insects and some birds are noticeable around the garden. It’s like a miniature paradise inside the castle.
“You two will never get along? Aren’t you?”, he asked
“Nahh, that would be one of the greatest impossibilities in every dimension…” I answered back.
A soft sigh he let out and stared blankly at the beautiful surrounding around us.
“I’m always thrilled the way he carved his own path over your fate. He’s no ordinary angel. I’m looking forward on how things will become with him now.” He said while still his gaze is on the surrounding.
“You’re gambling too much trust in him. We both know how powerful fate is. No one has ever escaped its snare.” I retaliated.
“For millenniums that had passed, maybe that could be true. But maybe history will have a new face now. And that would be more exciting in this complex field of fate and love.”
He sipped some few teas on his cup and remained silent for a while. He’s really serious with his words. I just hope my premonition would not be true, but we both knew that we saw the same cycle of events in the near future.
I looked upward at the blue sky drifting my thoughts away as the wind gently brushed in our armors…Yeah let’s see who will emerge victorious, love or fate…
