It’s definitely a date
Dean POV
As I walked up to Grace’s house, my stomach was doing flip flops. I had no idea why I was so nervous. This is just a thank you dinner. That’s what she said. I thought to myself.
I hid the fruit basket I bought her behind my back. I went to knock but she beat me to it and opened the door. I thought my mouth hit the floor and I was sure I was drooling. This woman looked like a Goddess. She was wearing a Black low cut blouse and a tight red skirt. Her hair was down with the natural dark curls cascading down her back. I was in awe of her. So much so, I forgot to speak.
“Hi Dean! Come on in.” she said as she stepped aside and motioned for me to come in. I walked in and pulled the basket from behind my back. "I wasn’t sure what to get you and since you own a flower shop I didn’t think you’d want those." Her face lit up letting me know this was a good call. “I love chocolate covered strawberries! Thank you!” "I’m so glad you like them." I said.
She started walking towards the kitchen. "You look amazing," I heard myself say, half surprised. She stopped walking and turned to look at me. “Thank you, you look nice as well.” I swear if my uncle didn’t raise me to be a gentleman I would have picked her up, wrapped her legs around me and kissed her right here and now.
"It smells delicious. What’s for dinner?" I said, trying to clear my mind of the lust filled thoughts. “I hope you aren’t allergic to anything. I made chicken and shrimp carbonara.” she said as she pulled the dish from the oven. "Oh, I am very allergic to shrimp." I said. Her face dropped and I couldn’t help letting out the laugh I was holding in. "I’m sorry darlin I couldn’t help it. I’m not allergic to anything." She let out a sigh of relief. “That wasn’t very nice,” she said with a laugh.
“Would you like a beer or a soda?” "I’ll take a beer," She pulled a cold Budweiser from the fridge and handed it to me. “It’s all I have, I hope that’s OK.” "Absolutely, beer is beer sweetheart. I’m not picky." She smiled and I couldn’t help thinking about those luscious lips. I wish I could walk up and just kiss her. She tilted her head to the side, “What’s going on in your head?” I tried to think fast. "Oh, I uh, wanted to tell you, the rust covering the lines to the heater was pretty bad. I’d be happy to replace it for you but I wanted to check with you first. Also, there is a broken window in the basement."
“Oh wow I didn’t think it was that bad. If you don’t mind replacing it I will pay you. And yes I do know about the window. Ryan broke it a long time ago when he locked himself out of the house and needed a way in.” "Darlin, don’t insult me, I will happily replace it, free of charge, unless you’d like to cook me dinner again." I said with a hopeful smile. I waited for her to reply and found that my stomach was doing flip flops again.
“I would love to cook you dinner again.”she said." Whew, I was nervous you were going to say no." I replied honestly. “You were?” she asked. "I was. Truth is I really like spending time with you. I was hoping I would see more of you." I said. “I really like spending time with you too.” she said.
Grace POV
When Dean said he liked spending time with me I was a little relieved. I was hoping that the feelings were mutual and hearing him say so made me happy. When dinner was done we sat down to eat. Dean kept moaning after every bite making me laugh. "Oh come on you don’t like it that much do you?" I asked. “Darlin, you are one heck of a cook.” he replied, making me blush.
"Thank you. I’m glad you like it. I love cooking but I don’t do it often. It’s just me here so usually it’s quick meals, nothing special." I said. “Well, you can cook for me anytime!” he said. "I’ll take you up on that," We held eye contact for a moment before he finally said, “Whether your cookin or not, as long as I get to borrow some of your time, I’ll be here.”
After a few hours of talking and laughing Dean said he should probably be going. He had a big day tomorrow setting up the small rides they were having at the carnival. "Oh that’s right! That’s coming up this Saturday?" I asked. “It’s all weekend actually. Starts Friday night. My Uncle wanted to extend it this year in hopes that it would help the church raise more money.”he replied. "I think I might come." I told him. “I think you should. Maybe you could set some time aside and accompany me on a ride on the ferris wheel?”he asked. He was so adorable. "I would love to." I replied.
“Alright sweetheart well I better be going.” He said as he stood and started walking to the door. I walked him out to the porch and he turned to face me. “I really did have a nice time and of course you already know I loved the food.” he said with a smile. “I can come by tomorrow and install the new heater if you’d like.” "That would be great. What time can you be here?" I can be here at 7am if that’s not too early?” "You are doing me a favor, seven is fine." I said.
We stood there just looking at each other for a minute, when he took a step forward, making the gap between us smaller. He reached up and put his hand on the side of my neck and gently pulled me into him. When my lips were pressed against his, all I could think was, this kiss is amazing and I never wanted to stop kissing him. I felt sparks flying, like the whole world stopped around us and it was just us in this amazing moment we shared.
When he broke contact I was already missing the feeling of his lips against mine. I opened my eyes and was met with his. “Just as I thought. Your lips are the softest thing I have ever felt.” he said. I looked at his lips and smiled. "Yours were nice too," I said. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning darlin.” He walked away and I just stood there. I didn’t want to leave this spot. I wanted to live in this moment for a little while longer. He got in his truck and beeped once to say goodbye. I waved back.
I ran inside like a giddy little school girl running all the way upstairs and throwing myself back onto my bed. I felt like I was a teenager, kissed for the first time. I grabbed my phone and called Abbie. As my best friend she had first dibs on the details.
