~Freya~
I groaned, my head banging hard. I held my head, feeling so much pain. Opening my eyes, everywhere felt blurry at first, and pain became so much more overbearing.
“You are awake, Luna,” Pack doctor Rafael called out. I could hear the joy in his tone, and I wondered why waking up in the morning brings joy to him.
“Here, drink this,” He said, giving me a smelly herb to drink. I tried to push him away, but the pain came again with full force. I groaned again.
“Sorry, Luna, here, take. Please drink,” He insisted, looking at me feeling so agitated and careful around me. I felt an ominous feeling, but I decided to drink the herb.
It was so bitter that I wanted to vomit, but Rafael kept telling me to drink for the sake of my health, and I listened to him. I drank the content finish and squeezed my face.
So bitter!
Checking my surroundings, I realized I was in the healer's wing.
“Why am I here? What happened?” I queried.
“You don't remember?” he said, more of a question than a response. I shook my head and then squinted my brows.
“For how long have I been here? And what do you mean by I don't remember?” I queried, awaiting his response.
“For some hours, it's evening now, my lady,” He replied, and I felt something was wrong.
I've been out for that long?
My instincts asked me to check if my child was okay; I touched my belly, but I felt something was wrong.
“What happened to my baby?” The question came out as a whisper, and then everything kept rushing in. The party, the argument with Caius, the rogues, and…
“Oh! No,” my eyes widened as I gasped. I shook my head repeatedly, “Tell me, Rafael. Tell me my baby is okay." I voiced out.
He looked at me with pity and bent his head without reply. I do not need to hear him speak; his silence has given me the answer I need.
‘Keira, is our pup okay?’ I said, trying to grasp the only hope I have. My pup can't just go like that; I've held the baby for a month, and so it's impossible, right?
Kiera was quiet!
My wolf didn't say anything; she just let out a whimper.
“I’m sorry, Luna!” Rafael muttered, his head still bent.
“No!!!!” I screamed in agony, tears rolling down my eyes. It was gushing like a stream of water.
I cried. I wailed. I cursed.
The heart-wrenching feeling of losing your pup is something no female wants.
It's as if a part of you is gone and a hole is drilled into your heart.
I wiped my tears and got down from the bed, “Luna, you need to have some rest. You are still weak,” he warned, but I ignored him.
The pain I'm feeling is far different from the physical pain, and it hurts more than hell. “Where is Caius?” I asked, my tone sharp.
He darted his eyes, trying to avoid my question, but I have no time for this.
“I asked you a question, Rafael, and I need an answer. Where is your Alpha?” I bellowed, my voice now authoritative.
“He is in the guest wing, tending to the sick people,” He replied, but I knew what he was trying to hide. I clenched my fist and darted out of the room.
How dare he still stay with that wretched being when I just lost our pup?

I stormed into Lyselle’s room despite the protest of the guards, my injured shoulder throbbing with every step. He was lying on her bed, hugging her and whispering some stupid reassuring words that aggravated my wolf. Noticing my presence, he looked at me, his eyes widened as if he had not expected me to barge in.
He hurriedly stood up and dragged my hands and pulled me out of her room down to his office.
“Freya,” He called softly, but I slapped him.
I slapped him again!
Tears streaming down my face, he held his cheeks in shock at my outburst.
“Freya, you should be resting,” He murmured, his shocked gaze replaced with furrowing brows.
I raised my hands and slapped him for the third time.
“Freya!” He shouted, his veins popping out.
“Don’t you dare raise your voice at me!” I snapped, my composure cracking. “You left me to fend for myself, Caius, despite knowing I can't shift because of my pup. You left me while you hovered over Lyselle like she was the only one who mattered. Not me, not even our pup!”
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, “I was protecting the pack!”
His lame, stupid excuse again!
“No,” I shot back, stepping closer. “You were protecting her.”
“Don’t insult me by stating otherwise,” I added. “ I lost my pup because of you, and you do not feel an ounce of remorse. Here you are cuddling your ex, whereas your mate just lost her pup. Is this how cruel you are?” I screamed at him, ignoring the physical pains.
“She is important to the pack, Freya!” Caius' voice rose. “You don't understand the weight of leadership, Freya. Lyselle is…” He trailed, and I snickered.
“Of course, trying to shove my family background into my face. Just say it to my face that I'm an orphan and I won't be able to understand. Of course, leadership is more important to the life of your pup. Lyselle's fragile body is much more important than your pup,” I let out a sadistic laugh.
“Lyselle…” He paused and closed his eyes.
“Lyselle is what?” I queried. “She is just a wolf from your past that you can't get over! I'm your mate Caius; I'm supposed to be your priority, not her, or have you forgotten that!”
“Chosen, not fated!” He corrected with gritted teeth, and I blinked the tears threatening to fall at his reminder.
His jaw tightened, and I could feel his aura seeping out, “She is not just a wolf from my past, Freya. Lyselle is much more than that; she is my life, and I can't bear to lose her even if it comes to risking the life of my pup!” he admitted, and I was taken aback.
“You! Caius!” I stuttered in disbelief.
He just admitted it to my face that he doesn't even care about the death of our pup! How could he?
After everything she had done to him, he is still running after her like she never dumped him in the cruelest way ever.
“You've made your choice tonight, Caius,” I said firmly. My voice barely above a whisper, “And it wasn't me.”
“Freya, stop!” he said, his tone softening. “I didn't mean it. You are overreacting. You are strong—you didn't need my help. Lyselle.” He hesitated, the words sticking in his throat.
“Oh, I know you meant those words, Caius. You would choose her over your pup, and yes, you did. The bond tying both of us together is gone. I didn't get the chance to know if my pup was a girl or boy, thanks to you. I'm strong? You think I do not need you! I needed you, Caius; I needed you even more than you could acknowledge, but then Lyselle comes first, right?”
He didn't respond!
“I, Freya Raine, reject you, Alpha Caius Raven of the Silvermist pack, as my mate and alpha of the pack,” I stated, my emotions raw. Another surge of pain rushed in; I waited for him to reject me back.
“Reject me, Caius; that's the only thing you can do for me now, please. This is my last request,” I pleaded. Uncertainty filled his eyes.
“You are hurt, Freya, and you could die if I reject you,” He muttered, concern evident in his voice.
“It doesn't matter; you have your Lyselle now, so I don't matter to you,” I snapped at him.
He hesitated at first before complying, “I, Alpha Caius, accept your rejection.” I stumbled forward, losing my balance. Caius tried to keep me stable, but I pushed him away; any more contact with him and I might break for real.
“You can stay here for the night,” He said, but I ignored him. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath before saying my final goodbye and left him alone.
