CHAPTER 18 In the town centre of Ithaca the streets had been cordoned off to create a Christmas Market with stalls, mulled wine, carollers and a huge nativity scene. Even a horse drawn sled was moving sedately through the crowds, carrying laughing young children and their smiling parents. There had been fresh snow overnight and everything looked bright, crisp and gorgeous. The atmosphere was festive and joyful. The complete antithesis of how Emilia felt. She wove her way through the crowds, going nowhere in particular. She had hoped browsing the craft and produce stalls would take her mind of what had happened the night before, but it hadn’t.
