"I saw the papers, Mark," Pierre says as answer the call. "It looks bad."
There's concern in his voice. Or maybe he's just faking. I can't f*****g tell anymore.
"Did you call to gloat over a job well done?" I snap without thinking.
He sighs sharply. "I called to tell you I'm sorry it has happened. And I hope you sort it out."
I wish I could trust him, that I could have his help in getting through this. But it's a faint notion. Even learning if he betrayed me or not is secondary right now. All I need to focus on is salvaging my business.
