I HEAVED A sigh of mixed feelings. I ached for Marcus's touch and kiss but I knew nothing good was going to come out of it and resented him for it, so I was both grateful and ungrateful for the interruption.
"f*****g hell," He muttered under his breath.
I could perceive the aroma of the cigar he had been smoking as his breath fanned my lips.
I squirmed away from his grasp and stepped aside. I looked up at the source of the cough, and the coldness from the hazel eyes that stared back at me almost made me stagger.
The stunning gorgeous woman stood with an air of impudence as she stared daggers at me.
Who was this? I asked myself.
Marcus turned slowly. He had a smug smile plastered to his lips as he walked to the woman.
"Vittorio was worried about your whereabouts," She said. "And as YOUR WIFE, I was sent to bring you back." She raised her voice slightly and flashed me a glance when she said the two words.
His wife? I could not believe my ears. I cleared my throat in an attempt to gather my shattered dignity before walking away. I felt Marcus turn away from his wife and watched me walk away, I took extra care not to stumble as I walked back into the hall.
My head was boiling with anger as I walked up to where Laura was enjoying the party.
"We are leaving," I said fiercely.
"What? Why?" She asked.
"Just do as I say and pack your things, they have their own servers that will take care of the last meal," I urged, but Laurs remained in her spot.
"That Irish man looks very interested in me," Laura said, nodding discreetly to a tall man standing near the bar. "I am waiting for him to approach me."
I took one look at them and shook my head. "You don't want that, Laura," I said. "That one is nothing but bad news, trust me I know."
"I'm sure you do," Laura said. I noticed her words were a little slurred. She was getting drunk. "Given that you allowed yourself to getorrgensnt and dumped by a dangerous one too."
I ignored her remark and gripped her elbow. "Come on," she did not put up much of a fight as I half-carried her out to our van.
I was trying to get through the thoughts running through Marcus's mind when he came onto me like that knowing that he had a wife. That was the wife that had made his father put an end to our relationship.
I refused to shed another tear for Marcus Salvatore as I got into the van and screeched away from the parking lot.
MARCUS P.O.V
Marcus sighed for the umpteenth time that day. He sat at his family's table, staring blankly at the partying going on all around him.
Although it was grating on his nerves, he ignored the hard stares that his wife, Melissa was giving him, instead, he looked everywhere else.
His mind kept on drifting back to the corner with Olivia with her pinned against the wall and her back arching into his body, her breasts squashed up against his chest and her succulent lips parted open for him to –
"Did you hear that, Marcus?" Julian's voice brought him to attention.
"Yeah yeah," Marcus said. "It's a good one." He improvised absently.
"What is a good one?" His cousin asked.
"Whatever it is that you were talking of," Marcus snapped.
There was an awkward silence around the table for a moment until Julian cleared his throat and said, "Uh, we were talking of Matteo's heartbreak. He caught his girlfriend cheating."
Marcus smiled sheepishly at his second cousin, Matteo who was frowning angrily.
A henchman came up to Julian and whispered in his ears before walking away. Julian then leaned to Marcus and said, "The men are meeting now,"
Marcus nodded and signaled with his head and most of the men from the table stood up in unison. Different men in other areas of the hall stood up too and they made their way to a secret backdoor.
"If looks could kill, you'd be very dead," Julian whispered to Marcus as they walked.
Marcus turned to look at their table where his wife and a few other people including his father sat. Mellissa was still staring at him.
He faced forward and shrugged. "Good thing looks can't kill."
"What happened between you two?"
"She caught me kissing someone," Marcus said.
Julian chuckled and shook his head. "You are one crazy son of a b***h!" He looked at Marcus. "You were kissing someone when your wife was close by?"
"Well, it was not exactly a kiss," Marcus muttered. "I was about to, but it's not like that would change anything."
Julian chuckled. "I can't believe you," He laughed. "You leave the table for a few minutes and you're already about to hook up with a server."
"It was not just a server," Marcus said. He collected a glass of champagne from a waiter. "It was Olivia."
Julian's smile vanished and his face became serious. "Which Olivia?"
"The Olivia you know," Marcus said sipping on his drink.
"What was she doing here?" Julian asked. "Is she the date of one of the men here?"
Marcus shrugged. "I don't know."
"You don't –" Julian pulled Marcus aside to a corner and asked fiercely. "You don't know? She might be the date of one of the men in here… and you were kissing her. Do you want a death sentence? Or you're just out to start a fight."
Marcus shrugged again. "It's not that serious."
"And Mellissa caught you kissing her," Julian asked.
Marcus nodded. "Not exactly kissing, but yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Melissa might just take it as one of your other flings…" Julian said. "Unless she recognizes Olivia… and then Olivia might be in danger."
"What do you mean?" Marcus's brows furrowed.
Julian sighed. He took the glass from Marxus and placed it on a ledge. "In case you haven't noticed, your wife possesses a mean streak of jealousy."
"She wouldn't hurt Olivia just because of what she saw," Marcus said.
"Keep on trying to convince yourself," Julian said. "In case you have forgotten, Mellissa is the daughter of the biggest family in New York. And she is your wife, but she is also a Chen, and they are ruthless, all she has to do is call to her father."
Marcus felt his blood chill as he realized that Julian had spoken the truth. He knew what the Chens were capable of.
"Come, the meeting would have started," Julian said, leading Marcus down the stairs into an underground room.
The room was well lit and it was filled with different men from different Mafia families.
Martinez Martell, the father of the groom stepped on the podium and created his throat to get the attention of the men. He started to talk but what he was saying was lost on Marcus, whose mind was lost in what Julian had told him.
All through the meeting, he considered if his wife, Melissa was actually capable of hurting Olivia. Maybe Julian was right.
He sighed and looked around the room. At the far end, a tall, thin man with a thin, funny looking beard stood with a straight back.
That was Ailun Chen. Melissa's brother.
Marcus looked at the cold hard face of his brother and nodded to himself. Julian was right, all Melissa needed to do was to place a call and Olivia would be forgotten story, along with her child, Jake.
He could not allow that to happen, and so for that sake, he was going to avoid Olivia and her son even though he wanted nothing more than to bury his c**k deep inside Olivia.
He sighed and squirmed to get comfortable as he listened to what Martinez Martell was saying.
