Chapter 1

266 Words
Once upon a time, there lived a girl in a small cottage, in a small town. The girl lived with her aged grandmother. Her grandmother made beautiful baskets, knitted mats, and herbs. The girl didn't know who her parents were. Her grandma liked to call her Pearl. Every Friday, Pearl would go to the big markets in a city close to her town. The city was named Vault. They said all the treasures in the world were hidden in that city. Pearl liked going to Vault because of how lively and big it was. Everyone was always busy doing one thing or the other. This particular Friday, Pearl was sitting under the shade in the market, selling her grandmother's wares and herbs, when a question crept into her mind. "What is my purpose?" she asked herself. The question disturbed her so much, but she couldn't find any answers. She went home that day feeling unsatisfied and unhappy. Her grandmother noticed her countenance and asked her what the matter was. "Grandma, I don't know my purpose," she said with a gloomy face. Her grandmother smiled and said, "Pearl, you are just sixteen. I found my purpose when I was 40." "Hmmmm, and what was your purpose?" asked Pearl. "My purpose was to make herbs. My herbs have cured a lot of people." "But Grandma, you did a lot of things before you started making herbs. How did you know making herbs was your purpose and not those other things?" Pearl asked inquisitively. "I just knew, Pearl. I just knew. You will know when you find yours." 💫
