Ellis

305 Words
I swing open the door to The Pour and walk up to the bar. I got here towards the end of their supper rush to talk to Scott about his books. That’s what I do, I’m the numbers guy. I have an office but try to get out and meet my clients at their businesses when I can. It forces me to come out of my shell a bit. I like to think it does anyway. “Ellis! I was wondering when you’d show up. I guess I’m glad you waited till it slowed down a bit, we were swamped. Luckily the new girl started tonight, so we weren’t totally buried. Let’s head back to my office.” I nod, giving him a half smile, and turn on my heel to meet him in the back. Except when I turn around I run directly into a woman carrying a tray. The world slows as I watch the drinks flip towards her and she starts falling backwards. Before I can think, I reach out, grabbing her around the back of the neck and waist with my arms, my wings wrapping around her in a protective gesture, soda splashing all down her front. Scott lied to me, she’s not just a “girl.” She’s the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen. Long brown hair cascades down her back, tickling my skin where I have a hold on her. The plushness of her body is like it was made to mold to the sharp, hard edges of mine. Her big chocolate eyes stare up at me surprise, her fluttery pulse beating wildly under my thumb. Perfection. Between the scent of her skin and the heat of her body soaking into mine, my senses are already prickling with awareness, nerves like live wires everywhere her body touches mine.
