The thugs remained silent. None of them dared to step forward, leaving everyone confused.
Walter had no idea that, outside, his men had encountered Max. From that meeting, they had learned that Ethan was a War God.
Because of this, none of them dared to carry out Walter's orders. They weren’t willing to throw their lives away.
"Us, beat him up? Are you kidding me? We’d rather beat you up!" said the leader of the thugs.
What the man said made Walter freeze. His men, who had always followed his every command, were refusing him for the first time.
What’s going on? Why are they suddenly so defiant?
"I’m paying you to follow my orders! Why are you refusing now? Do you want to be fired?" Walter yelled, unable to handle the insanity of the situation any longer.
"Yes, we’re refusing to follow your orders! We’d rather lose our jobs than die for nothing!" shouted the leader, snapping back without hesitation.
Walter was utterly shocked.
They’re afraid of dying just from attacking Ethan? Is Ethan really that powerful?
"What nonsense are you talking about, i***t?! Who can kill you? Him? You’re scared of this piece of trash? Useless fools! Damn it!" Walter cursed, the veins in his neck bulging with frustration.
The thugs, now fed up with Walter, decided to leave.
"We quit being your bodyguards! If you want to beat him up, do it yourself! Don’t drag us into this!" the leader said, throwing his ID badge at Walter's face.
Walter fumed with rage. Not only had he been denied his revenge, but his dignity was also trampled on. He felt humiliated in front of the Evans family, whose approval he was desperately seeking.
"Stop! All of you! Follow my orders or you’ll regret it for the rest of your lives!" Walter screamed, trying to salvage his pride.
But his threats were completely ignored. His ten former bodyguards walked out without a second thought, leaving only silence behind.
'Damn it! Why are they all so terrified of Ethan? What are they so afraid of?' Walter questioned internally.
Meanwhile, as he turned to look at Ethan, he found Ethan staring at him as if he were trash.
The tables had turned! He was now nothing more than someone worthless.
Walter’s face turned crimson. A whirlwind of emotions raged inside him—anger, frustration, confusion, anxiety, and fear all crashing together.
'This can’t be real! He must’ve bribed my men before they came in! There’s no way Ethan, that loser, could be so feared by them,' Walter thought again.
"Still here? Why don’t you follow your men out?" Ethan asked with a smirk.
"Why would I join those losers? You might’ve bought them, but you can’t buy me!" Walter spat.
"What? Are you saying Ethan bribed your men to defy you?" Grace asked, her mouth hanging open.
Walter nodded, as if he had witnessed the accusation with his own eyes.
"Yes. There’s no doubt Ethan paid them to turn against me. He’s a sneaky one!" Walter insisted.
Grace was swayed by Walter’s words. She believed his absurd claim, though it made no sense since she had always mocked her son-in-law for being poor.
Her mind was clouded by negative thoughts about Ethan, so whenever someone spoke ill of him, she was quick to believe it.
"You’re pathetic, Ethan! Why would you even do something like that—to impress us?" Grace asked, raising her voice.
"Sorry, Ethan. We won’t be swayed by any of this. In fact, we’re even more disgusted by you!" she continued.
The rest of the Evans family joined in, criticizing and cornering Ethan. They couldn’t see any of his positive traits anymore.
In this moment, Walter racked his brain, trying to figure out how to regain his dignity and maintain his image in the Evans family's eyes.
Ethan, meanwhile, still had one more gift for Lily.
“I may not have much time left, but I have another gift I haven’t given yet,” Walter said.
Everyone in the room immediately turned their eyes toward Walter, their faces filled with admiration.
“Wow, Walter, you sure prepared a lot of gifts. You’re so generous,” Grace praised.
Walter then pulled out a red box, extended his hand, and opened it.
“This is the finest diamond ring ever. Its engraving formed naturally. There’s no other design like this, and it’s one of a kind,” Walter boasted proudly.
The diamond was shaped like a beautiful rose. It was truly mesmerizing.
Everyone gasped with excitement at the sight of the gift Walter had brought. Some even felt envious of Lily for receiving such a rare and expensive present.
“Lily, this is for you. Please, wear it,” Walter said softly.
Lily was silent, her expression completely flat.
“Come on, Lily, take the gift. The diamond is stunning, it suits you perfectly,” Duncan said.
“Don’t take it, Lily. That’s just a fake diamond. It would be embarrassing for you to wear something so fake,” Lucas said.
Lucas’s words shocked everyone. No one expected him to speak up like that.
“Lucas! What are you saying? Don’t slander people like that! If you can’t afford it, don’t speak ill of someone else’s gift!” Grace raged, her eyes bulging with fury.
“If you’re jealous, just admit it. Everyone knows you’re poor. You probably spent all your money paying off those idiots earlier, and now you don’t have any left to eat tomorrow,” Walter sneered.
“I’m just telling the truth. Maybe it is a diamond, but it’s tiny. The outer layer is clearly not diamond,” Lucas said.
Walter’s face turned crimson again. He had bought the diamond at a discount, but he refused to accept the idea that its outer layer was fake.
“You’ve gone too far! You should leave my house, now!” Grace screamed, pointing to the door.
Emma started crying again, heartbroken at the thought of being separated from her father once more.
Lily tried to comfort Emma. “Don’t cry. Your father isn’t going anywhere.”
Duncan approached Lucas and grabbed his son-in-law’s hand, attempting to drag him out of the house.
But just then, the sound of several vehicles roaring outside the Evans home broke the tension.
"Whose cars are those outside? They’re so loud!" Grace exclaimed, annoyed.
Standing near the window, Grace peeked out to see what was going on.
Her eyes widened in shock as she saw several military personnel opening the front gate.
“There are so many soldiers outside! They’ve brought rare military jeeps! There are about... 10 jeeps and one Rolls-Royce!” Grace said, astonished.
Everyone rushed to the window to take a look, their jaws dropping at the sight of the luxurious red Rolls-Royce.
Duncan hurried outside to ask what the soldiers wanted, but before he could speak, they were all stunned again as several soldiers entered the house, carrying numerous gift boxes. No, they weren’t just gift boxes—they were bridal dowries.
"Good evening! I’m here to deliver these gifts to the Evans family!" one of the soldiers said.
