The Dragon's Choice

539 Words
The monstrous dragon spread its wings. The force of a single flap sent violent winds crashing through Hell Forest. Ancient trees were uprooted. Boulders shattered into dust. Its crimson eyes locked onto Lyra. She felt as if death itself was staring at her. "Kael..." she whispered. The Devil Alpha stepped in front of her, shielding her with his body. "Do not fear." "As long as I breathe..." "...no one will touch you." His calm voice eased the terror in her heart. Above them, Morgana laughed. "So touching." "But promises are meaningless before absolute power." She raised her hand. "Destroy them!" The Hell Dragon roared. Its jaws opened wide. A sphere of black fire formed inside its mouth. The air grew unbearably hot. The Moon Priest screamed. "Everyone, run!" "It's Hellfire!" The dragon unleashed the attack. BOOOOM!! A river of black flames tore across the battlefield, swallowing everything in its path. Warriors fled in panic. The ground melted into molten rock. The forest erupted in flames. Kael stretched out his right hand. A massive wall of crimson energy burst from his palm. The Hellfire slammed into the barrier. The collision shook the mountains. For several seconds, neither force moved. Then... Crack! A fracture appeared in Kael's barrier. Lyra's eyes widened. "Kael!" He gritted his teeth. "The dragon has grown stronger..." With a deafening explosion, the barrier shattered. The remaining flames rushed toward them. Without thinking, Lyra threw herself in front of Kael. "No!" A brilliant silver light burst from the mark on her neck. Time seemed to stop. The Hellfire froze in midair. The silver light expanded until it covered the entire battlefield. Every werewolf stared in disbelief. The black flames slowly faded into harmless sparks. Silence followed. Even the dragon looked confused. Then something impossible happened. The giant beast lowered its head. It looked directly into Lyra's eyes. Instead of attacking... It knelt. "What?" Morgana gasped. "No... that's impossible!" The Moon Priest fell to his knees. "The Dragon..." "It has acknowledged her." The dragon let out a deep, gentle rumble. Its fierce crimson eyes softened. Lyra hesitated before taking a slow step forward. Kael reached out. "Be careful." She nodded. When she placed her trembling hand on the dragon's enormous snout... A vision flashed through her mind. She saw an ancient battlefield covered in blood. Kael stood surrounded by countless enemies. Beside him was a young woman whose face looked exactly like Lyra's. The Hell Dragon stood behind them, protecting them both. Then the woman whispered, "If I die... promise me you'll protect her in our next life." Kael nodded with tears in his eyes. "I swear." The vision ended. Lyra staggered backward, breathing heavily. "What... was that?" Kael's face had turned pale. "You saw..." "...our past." Morgana's expression twisted with rage. "So the prophecy is true." She pointed at Lyra. "If she remembers everything..." "...my thousand-year plan will be destroyed!" Her body exploded with dark magic. The sky split apart. A massive black portal opened above Hell Forest. A chilling voice echoed from inside it. "Morgana..." "You have failed." A gigantic hand, covered in black scales, slowly emerged from the portal. Even Morgana stepped back in fear. Kael's eyes widened for the first time. "No..." "He has awakened."
