Chapter 2

2029 Words
I'm sweeping outside the house today and the annoying thing is that the ground is wet so I'm having a hard time with the leaves stuck to the ground. "Ugh don't torture me anymore come on leaves!" I feel like a fool talking here, I think I'll go crazy before I get back to Manila. Iñigo left again because he said he was going to the farm duh! It's obvious from what he was wearing earlier. He was wearing a thin long-sleeved shirt and loose pants, so it was obvious that he was really going to the farm. He said that tomorrow he will take me with him so that I am not just seeing a ghost. It's annoying because he even managed to tease me about ghosts. I finished sweeping the back part of the house, so I moved to the front. Why didn't Iñigo just hire a helper to have someone clean his house, with the thickness of the leaves here in his yard, it must have not been cleaned for several months. What if I leave here? There's no one to clean, maybe a snake will join the house because it's so messy. "Ahhh!" I screamed as I slipped in the mud I stepped on. Ugh, it is really annoying because it did rained last night, so the ground is freaking wet. "Pfft." I looked at the man who had just arrived and seemed to be holding back his laughter. I immediately glared at him, if he tries to laugh I would really hit him with a broom. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked me. "What do you think?!" I answered. "Oh no?" He answered questioningly and I could see him holding back his laughter. "Ugh! Why are you laughing?!" I shouted at him. "No," he answered before passing me and entering the house while biting his lip. I just stood up when I heard loud laughter from him inside the house. That shameless one really makes fun of me. "Iñigo! You're annoying!" Even though I was annoyed, I still finished cleaning up the mess. Ugh! I'm so tired and my hip hurts from bending over. I went inside and saw Iñigo looking out to call me. "Let's eat," he said. "I'll take a shower first," I told him. "Let's eat now, I'm hungry," he complained. I glared at him because he was so hungry that he didn't even care if I was dirty. "Tse! Go eat first if you want!" I snorted at him. I don’t care as long as I can take a bath first, he better take care of his life. I went up to my room and entered the bathroom to take a shower. The mud is stuck on my clothes, I'm sure it will be difficult to wash it. After I showered, I felt relief. Thank goodness and I'm clean. I went down to eat. I saw Iñigo, who was frowning, which made me laugh. "You really meant to take a long time taking a bath, didn't you?" he accuses me. I just made a funny face at him. "No, it really takes me that long to take a shower." He ignored me and started eating. It looks like he is really hungry from the speed at which he eats. I was just looking at him and he seemed to notice it, so he turned to me. I immediately looked away before taking a bite and started eating again. After we ate, he left immediately, but he asked me to wash the dishes. He gave me a piece of paper and when I looked at it I saw the Wi-Fi password and I almost jumped out of joy. I could finally talk to Ameishane. After I washed the dishes, I immediately took out my cellphone and went online on social media app. I looked at the messages one by one but it didn't make any sense. Only Ameishane’s message is important. Where are you? Hey, are you still alive? My gosh girl, I'm so worried. Please contact me!!! I laughed at her messages so I immediately replied. I'm in the province. She immediately called after seeing my message. I laughed and accepted her video call request. "Hey," I smiled at her. "Where are you?" "Who knows haha," I laughed. I couldn't help but to laugh at her irritated yet concerned face. "You're in a province you didn't even know? Are you crazy?" "No, I am being punished," I informed her. "Oh sorry, so when are you coming back?" Her question made me think. Gosh, I don't even know how long I'll be staying here. I hope my father will lift my punishment as soon as possible. I hate the thought that my b***h adopted sister is happy while I'm living hell here. Well, it's not really hell, Iñigo isn't torturing me. I was still partying in my dreams when Iñigo woke me up. I jumped out of bed to open the door because he was knocking as if he wanted to break it. "What the hell?!" I complained as I approached the door. When I got to the door, I immediately opened it and Iñigo was smiling. "Morning!" "Get ready, I'll take you to the farm," that's all, and he turned his back on me. Tss! Is it really necessary to take me to the farm? Like duh, it doesn't suit my skin. I'm beautiful, then what? I’ll get sunburn. But in the end I still prepared. Showered and changed clothes before going downstairs and heading to the kitchen. I reached out to him who was already serving our breakfast; simple eggs and fried hotdogs. I sat down and just waited for him to sit down before starting to eat. "What will I do at the farm?" I asked him. "What do you think?" "Watching you work?" He laughed at my answer and immediately shook his head. "I'll teach you some chores on the farm. That's better than playing with ghosts here." I glared at him, until now he is still teasing me with those ghosts. "I hate you." "Oh, please don't," he said, laughing. After we ate, he also washed the dishes. He said it was faster. After he washed, we left the house. He walked first and I followed him. "Shall we just walk?" I asked him. "It depends, if you want, we can crawl." He answered me sarcastically. I immediately chased after him and hit him. "I never got a good answer from you!" I complained. He just laughed and touched the part where I hit him. We just kept walking until we got to a big gate where Salvador Farm was written. "Why isn't your house inside your farm?" "It's a long story." "Even just a summary?" I tugged on him. He immediately came to me and put his arm around me, before tapping my forehead. We walked into the farm and the first thing we saw was mango. Gosh, if we were just going to pick mangoes, I wish he had told me so I could have brought salt. I ran closer to the lower mangoes. It was funny because the fruits were within reach. I raised my hand and was ready to pick a fruit when Iñigo hit my hand. "Ouch!" I groaned. "We're not here to eat mangoes." "Why? Are we just gonna stare at these delicious mangoes?" He laughed at my question. What is that? Why does he always laugh at me? Am I a joker? "Enough." We both turned to the speaker. A quite aged man, scary and grumpy looking. "Dad." Dad? Does that mean it's his father? It's so scary! He said goodbye to me for a while because he said his daddy should talk to him first. I was sitting under the mango tree snorting. I was almost drooling while staring at the fruit. Can't I really take at least one? Mangoes are very expensive in Manila. Shh! Heartless Inigo. A few minutes later, he came back to me and I immediately stood up to meet him. "Come on," he said. He walked first and I followed. We just walk, doesn't he have a horse? I would like to experience riding a horse. We arrived at a large rice field and there were harvesters there. Don't tell me he'll make me work in the middle of the rice field in this hot weather? I stopped walking and covered my mouth with my palms. "What?" he asked as he noticed that I had stopped. "D-don't tell me..." I cried. He laughed and got closer to me. I couldn't stop my tears as they continued. Is Daddy really that indifferent to me? He would really let me work under the sun for a crime I didn't commit. "No..." he dazedly wiped my tears. "I won't make you work there, stop crying please," he told me. "Really?" Maybe he just changed his mind because I was crying? But even so, that's okay, I don't want to work in the heat of the sun! He reached over and hugged me. I was surprised by that. My tears instantly stopped. Even my heartbeat seemed to stop as well. He gently stroked my hair. "I won't make you work under the sun, Mayumi. I brought you here because I am bothered that you are alone at home. I can't stop thinking about you. Are you afraid? Have you seen any ghosts ? Things like that," he explained. Instead of losing the fear in my heart because he wouldn’t make me work, the fear of the possible consequences of what he showed me was formed. His kindness is scary. He just made me sit under a tree where there was a bamboo chair. He said he just had to do something. He will not work with others, but he has to supervise them because today they will deliver rice to the other town. My butt hurt while sitting on the bamboo chair. That's why I got up and walked around. Iñigo saw what I did, so he ran towards me. "Are you bored?" I shook my head at him. I was impatient, but I was happy while watching the harvesters. "Would you like something to eat?" he asked again. "No, focus on your work, I'm fine. When I need something, I'll call you right away," I answered him. This is not my usual self, if other times I probably throw tantrums. When I came to Iñigo I was calm, maybe because he was not my parents who always favored my adopted sister. When it comes to him, I have no rival for his attention. He's giving me the parental love I wanted. When noon came, I saw people laying banana leaves on a long table. They have also put a lot of rice there. "Where do you want to eat? Here or should we go home?" The farmers looked at me apprehensively. It's like choosing home means I'm dramatic and I can't keep up with our unequal state of life. "U-huh..." Iñigo smiled at me. "Let's go home," he made the decision, but I quickly shook my head at him. "Is it okay for us to go with them? We don't have any food," I asked worriedly. "Ma'am, there is a lot of food," said a man, and pointed to the prepared food. I smiled at the man and pulled Iñigo closer to them. "Are you sure?" Iñigo whispered to me reassuringly. I smiled at him and nodded. We went with them to eat. I also talk, sometimes even laugh. We used our bare hands to eat. They even laughed at me because I barely got any rice, it was falling out of my hand. "Open your mouth," ordered Iñigo. I turned to him and his outstretched hand met me with only food. I accepted that, my mouth finally had quite a bit of food. It seemed normal that Iñigo was feeding me, no one looked at us maliciously, our companions didn't seem surprised. Maybe they know how kind Iñigo is. And maybe I shouldn't put meaning in all his gestures 'cause it's all natural for him.
