Chapter 1: The promotion

957 Words
“A promotion?” I asked surprised, not that I didn't want it but it took ages for me to be recognized. I smiled excited. My boss showed me to his office. I was left breathless, there were small cubicles at the bottom of the staircase giving each person their own little space. An office completely made out of glass was visible from the bottom of the staircase showing every inch of the office. “Your cubicle,” he said, his tone very professional yet sexy. I took it all in, even though the space is small it was also very unique, and I could see right up to the glass office which I could only assume was his. The table was also made out of glass with a big black leather chair that could wrap around a person, another two vibrant coloured chairs on the opposite side- didn’t think red would be in a man’s office but it looked very stylish possibly a female touch? My desk was completely black with all the necessary tech equipment- laptop, printer and a phone. I cannot believe that I get to be the boss’s assistant, I know it may seem like nothing to some but I worked hard to get here. He interrupted my thoughts. “You can finish up down there today (pointing towards the stairs next to the elevator) and join us first thing tomorrow morning Mrs Pugg”, he said finding my eyes to make sure I heard what he said. “Yes Mr Hunter” I said softly, trying to hide the nervousness. As I was walking back downstairs- I prefer the stairs rather than the elevator, I reflect on how I finally went up in life, not just a better pay cheque but also up a flight of stairs (I giggled at my own metaphor). You would never believe that this was the same building, the downstairs is dark even though the building is almost completely made of glass, at the top was light and modern. The windows downstairs are tinted so that the light do not damage the images and to provide security to our latest ideas. We learned the hard way when someone stole a whole edition by using the window washer’s platform and took pictures through the window. After that debacle we moved a few floors up and the windows got tinted making it hard to see through but also limiting the light. This happened some time ago, that is how long I have been here, so actually I went up twice, I giggled softly, rolling my eyes at my own silliness. It's only thanks to recent events that I got noticed, otherwise I probably would have still been stuck down here, not that it was bad or anything but a girl has dreams. About a month ago we had a shoot, we publish photography that tells a story (I know what you think, don't all photography tell a story?) Well the lady who normally made sure everything ran smoothly just started vomiting over the set and everyone just went into panic mode, I just took a deep breath and started giving orders and making sure the shoot went as planned. Although some felt that I poisoned her food because I got promoted, but it is what it is and I am so glad that for once in my life I wasn’t scared. As I cleaned up my desk I got some evil eye stares, only Garcia my best friend was as excited as me. “Please don’t forget me when you are living the good life at the top” she said while laughing. We always dreamed of what it would be like when we would get to the top. The thought of doing it alone scared and saddened me. She immediately noticed my body language changing as my body tensed up “You will be great, and we will always have lunch” she said trying to comfort me. “All packed” I said, now all that’s left was to clear out my photo section I thought. Garcia pushed me to the side of the room as if she wanted me out of the way. I left thanks to her help and as I approached the room I started to feel very emotional, although I have been wanting to leave this place, it was still a big part of me. I finished up rather quickly, as if in all these years there was only a few things to clear up, did I do so little in all the five years I have been here. My thoughts were interrupted as I was walking out and close the door. “Surprise!” everyone screamed. They are not all too jealous to congratulate me after all. Aysa I looked at the balloons and cake it all felt so surreal, the crowd just started dying down and suddenly I felt alone in the room. Taking in the memories, the people and even the furniture have seen me grow from the young no experience 21 year old to this beautiful, mature 26 year old. I might still have little experience especially when it comes to relationships, since I have only had one real relationship which in fact started in this office. He was the cutest but like they said a cute guy is everyone’s guy but if you met him you would understand why it doesn’t bother me, I had a piece of that and that’s all that I care about. I laughed silently and instantly Garcia’s focus was on me. She looked at my now blushed face, realising that I laughed out loud. She walked over to me “You had to be thinking of Owen the OwlMighty” she said laughing. We both stood there with silly faces reminiscing over Owen.
