IT WAS AT EXACTLY 2
Brandon Cutt, quoted “When you are surrounded by the people you trust, you can take immense comfort from them. “
Most times while planning to partake an activity let it be a gathering, party or any other ceremony that involves inviting other people to come as guests, it requires a team of experienced individuals to organize the event.
It was in 2008, when we held our A level levers party at St henry’s college Kitovu or others may call it “sosh”, as a class we selected a committee that would manage the function, these members had to collect views from all of the class members about who should be invited since it was a single-s*x school and it would require a ton of girls to spice up the function and fulfil the purpose of the event.
All the ideal schools with recommendable girls were raised to the committee to evaluate the recommendations and come up with a suitable school of course with the most beautiful girls. The selection criteria followed 1. Are the girls beautiful? 2. Are they village girls or town girls? Do they know how to dance? Of course if they are town girls, they know how to dance. 3. The distance from our school, so that the girls are not tired by the time they get to the event.
Finally, St. Theresa girls secondary school bwanda which is 30Km away from Masaka town won the tight competition and it had the honor to populate its girls to our auspicious event. Among the committee members Yawe outperformed the entire committee. He was therefore selected as the external coordinator after a long and tiring school’s evaluations. His role was to ensure that all logistical issues for the babes are done accurately ensure that our dates arrive by 8 am, all of us trusted Yawe since he had courage and charisma to manage the visitors, he proved a more city born than the entire school combined. He was always in touch with the female coordinator on the other side,
on the long waited day, the programme started well, the first item was mass and we had it very well with our 1st prayer request being “No weapon formed against this day shall prosper”. As we waited for our dates, we proceeded to the venue and booked seats each one reserving one for the expected date, with excitement we were ready to receive our party mates, Yawe was moving up and down like a president making important arrangements and decisions during a state matter to ensure that we received our visitors as planned, time went on but we could not receive our visitors, adrenaline increased when it reached 1pm we were still waiting but in vain. We decided to eat our food with solidarity, in single a school we don’t lose it all, we ate our own food and all of us were almost 100% confident that bwanda girls have betrayed us.
As we were about to complete the miserable lunch, there comes the bwanda school bus, we could not imagine that these were our dates, everyone was disappointed and no one wanted to welcome them, the president of the committee however had a full obligation to welcome the visitors, he boldly blamed the female coordinator disappointment caused by their delayed arrival.
Surprisingly the coordinator replied Yawe confidently told us to come at exactly 2, check on your watch? We are even ahead of time. we had entrusted Yawe with everything and expected him to do a good job. Our program could not fit in the remaining time as the girls since the girls were loaned to us up to 5-pmwe tried to cover up some things but all did not go well, we even missed the dance critical moment that was almost our objective at this sosh. All the photos taken on that day only remind us of misery, courtesy of Yawe!
My fellow toastmasters and guests. I believe you have people you trust with almost everything. Do you ever think of something that could go wrong like what Yawe did? A When you delegate, don’t take a trip, just have a power nap so that you keep in the loop.
