Chapter 12

-Enigmia-

How unfortunate for me that someone so perfect will get married. I sat staring at him, a strange pain forming in my heart. She was perfect for him, but I could not help feeling the jealousy coursing through my veins. How I wished I was her at that moment. I watched Jess make the potion with great concentration edged on her face. “Mia, please can you place the cup between the couple?” she asked me with a glint of mischief in her face. I looked at her curiously, took the cup and walked over to the couple. Reaching over towards the table, I placed it down. But as I came back up, my hand touched his shoulder by accident and I flinched. Shaking my head, I quickly apologized while holding my hand. I went back to my seat, staring at my hand I rubbed it slightly, I could not explain the amazing feeling coarsing through my hand just by touching him. It was as if electricity shot into my body leaving a tingling sensation on my hand. Zoning out for a while I just concentrated on my hand. “Are you ready,” Jessica asked the couple which brought me back from my to my senses. Looking towards them I saw him sitting frozen to his chair, staring right at me, I felt the blood rushing towards my face. I was sure I was now the colour of a tomato from embarrassment.

-Micah-

She must have felt it. I was certain of it. My shoulder had tingles all over it. I was uncertain what to make of it. Watching her rub her hand confirmed that I was not the only one that felt the electricity shoot through me, but what possibly could that mean. Her face turned instantly red as I could not help but stare at her. I wanted to touch her again. I wanted the electricity to shoot through me once more. Maybe it was just part of the ritual but her body language said differently. She was like forbidden fruit, I could not resist her. I snapped out of my entrancement when Jess came over with a small golden dagger. Micah your hand please. I nodded and held out my hand. She slid the dagger over my palm and held it over the cup, thereafter she gave me a cloth to press against my palm to stop the bleeding. I heard her request the same from Sheri and she obliged, holding Sheri’s hand over the cup. A sudden gasp came from Jess’ mouth when Sheri’s blood dropped into the cup releasing a black smoke from the cup. What on earth does that mean I thought to myself. It did not sound good from where I sat.

-Jessica-

I knew what the black smoke meant but I kept it from the hunters as I needed time to figure out the chemistry between Micah and Enigmia, so I decided a little white lie won’t hurt. “Ladies, Gentlemen, It is too early to tell, I have a very busy schedule and maybe three months from now we can try again. I knew Vanessa would react quickly. She expected an answer. “I’m sorry Vanessa, but it is too early to tell, you saw the black smoke, have you not? I asked slightly sarcastically. She looked at me shockingly, “Jessica, surely there are other ways to tell whether they will have a prosperous future?” I gave a smirk, she played right into my hand but I had to be a bit stubborn before I could give in. “Yes Vanessa but I will have to observe them on a daily basis and as I said I have a busy schedule” I stated with confidence. The elder member jumped up and quickly intervened, ”I am unsure who has your daily schedule so busy but we will pay double the price if you reschedule with them.” I chuckled, ”Thank you counselor but I am sure two weeks might be a bit steep for the hunters to reschedule my appointments, three months is not that far away.” I watched Vanessa’s face carefully as her eyebrows furrowed. "I'll pay for two weeks, you can use the cottage in my back yard, your daughter can stay as well but please, Jessica, we need answers." They awaited my answer as I looked over to the members and then Vanessa. After some time I gave a sigh, “Very well let me make some calls and we will get our things together. Nobody is to disturb or question the couple on their daily routines. They have to go about their normal lives. Not even I will be disturbing their routines and no one is to follow them or keep watch on them. It will interfere with the process. Should you fail to comply, the whole process will be a complete waste of my time and your money.”

-Vanessa-

I was desperate to get an answer. I needed Micah to stand in soon and three months is still far. I don’t think I will have that much patience to wait. I hated groveling but I needed this done in order to move forward so I did something I never thought I would do. I begged Jessica to stay, I will personally pay for the two weeks, I even offered my cottage and allowed her daughter to stay in order to convince her. She took her time to answer but eventually agreed but with a few conditions. I had people everywhere following them but now I had no choice to withdraw this order if I needed the answer. Fine I will withdraw my orders I say without thinking that Micah was sitting in the room. “What, you have people following us” he blurted with anger rolling off of his tongue. I put my foot in it badly now but hopefully things work out and we can move past this soon.

-Micah-

I was furious, they discussed these conditions in front of us as if we were not even in the same room as them. I had seen the excitement in the girls' body language on the fact that they were staying longer and I inwardly smiled. “Gentlemen and Vanessa, I would like to inform you that we are still in this room and I will leave no space toward disrespecting our personal space.. I think this is absurd. How dare you all disrespect Sheri as well as me so openly.” Sheri’s hand grabbed my arm and looked up at me as if trying to say everything will be fine, but I could not stand the fact that they discussed my personal life right in front of me, as if it has anything to do with them. Sheri stood, “Ladies, Gentlemen, Micah and I have come to an agreement, do as you please but bear in mind we will not change our agreement according to your beliefs and superstitions. In actual fact I find it odd for a hunter’s village to have any superstition at all. If you all don’t mind I would like to leave this meeting immediately, I will not be part of your arrangement except for the one I have with Micah.” she said cool and calm. Her face was blank. I quickly helped her to move her chair and looked towards the boardroom. “You may excuse me as well, " I said but I quickly looked towards the girl, I could see she looked disappointed. Was it due to the fact of us dismissing them, I really wanted to see her a bit more though but I could not afford the councillors to start controlling me...
