Chapter 3

-Micah- I stood in the boardroom all bright-eyed, the biggest smile on my face, holding Enigmia in my arms. Dad never answered me about keeping her, so I took it as a yes when he said I should bring her with us as we needed to leave. I felt proud about having a little sister, but my pride was cut short when I heard we were summoned to the boardroom. My smile faltered, I knew something was wrong. With looked at Nana with pleading eyes, but she gave me a motionless face and nodded towards Dad. This did not feel right, somehow I just felt uncomfortable about it. “Don’t worry Enigmia, I will protect you, forever, I promise,” I whispered to her as she giggled innocently, her hands reaching out to touch my face. My head snapped up, watching the council members, Nana and Dad entering the boardroom, I squinted my eyes as my arms tightened around her. They wasted no time with discussions regarding her. I heard everything about the fact that they feared what she might be, that her existence might be a threat to the hunters. Gritting my teeth from irritation. Did they think I could not understand what they were discussing? Were they really that afraid of a small helpless baby? How could they think like that? They were not even giving her a chance to find out whether she is human or supernatural. They had already judged her not knowing any facts about her, and she could not even defend herself. How could grownups think like this… were they that selfish? There was not a single positive point raised in her defense. It was ridiculous. I was beyond furious and my Dad noticed as my eyebrows raised, my eyes squinted. I pursed my lips together, giving them the death stare. Nana still led the village as she felt Dad was not capable of enforcing the code as strictly as she did. Today I saw a different side of her. She thrived on Power. The more power she got, the more she wanted. Today she lost the privilege of being called Nana. I wanted nothing to do with her. “Everyone agreeing to the execution of the child, please stand,” the words left her mouth and my eyes almost fell out of my skull. “NO,” I shouted out without realizing it. “Micah, go wait outside,” her voice sliced through the air. My head held down. I exited the room with Enigmia. Just before the door closed behind me, I saw everyone standing, including my Father. I never expected him to be one of my enemies. I stood outside the door staring down the corridor. It was calling me, begging me, telling me that it is now or never and the side of my lip lifted upward. This was the only opportunity I had to save her. Come tomorrow her existence will be no more. I could not let it happen, so I started walking out of the Huntley Mansion casually, as if nothing was wrong. I did not want anyone to be suspicious of my actions, but once I reached the border, I ran. No fear, no looking back, no regret. I made a promise, and I am keeping my promise. I knew exactly who to go to and where to find her. My arms were tired from carrying her. I tried thinking of ways to make it easier, then it snapped. I took off my top, I knotted the sleeves together, and as I came across vines, I started tying the bottom hem, making a pouch where I could slide her into. As we started traveling, I made sure to cover each and every track perfectly. I ran into some challenges along the way but nothing I could not handle. We have traveled for three days now. I had crushed fruit to eat as we had nothing else except what the forest offered, and I had to collect some for the trip around the Dragon mountain as it was the safest route to get to the coastal area. Nobody dared to go through or over the Dragon mountain. My face was red from the sun, but I protected her face with the hoodie on my top. Sometimes my eyes barely stayed open, but I did not dare sleep through the night. I was taught about the vile creatures haunting these areas. We were almost through day three when I could not go any further. My body was tired, and my eyes wanted to close, I was done. We were sitting in the shade underneath a palm tree. I still remember apologizing to her for failing to protect her. That was the last I remembered... At first my eyes blinked, then reality hit me. My eyes went wide open reaching out to find Enigmia, but she was gone. How could I have passed out? How could I have been so stupid? I jumped up and then realized I was lying on a bed. "Enigmia, Enigmia," I shouted frantically, my eyes scanning the area until I noticed the staircase. Running down the stairs, "Give her back." I demanded to my enemy. “If you hurt one hair on her body, I will…” -Jessica- I was amused by his behavior towards the baby, especially for his age, but I did not want him to finish that sentence, so I raised my voice. “Micah, what brought you her and where did you find this adorable little girl.” He rubbed his eyes about twice before he ran into me, releasing all the frustration and tension he built up during their trip, tears streamed down his face “Aunt Jessica, they were going to execute her”. My smile vanished instantly as I pushed him away, watching him carefully. I asked him calmly, but my face had shock written all over it. “They want to do what?” I asked, hoping I heard incorrectly, but he confirmed that the council, as well as Vanessa and Nathan, agreed to execute her. We discussed the situation, and he told me his story. We came to an agreement that I would take care of her. I couldn't understand. They didn’t even know whether she was human or supernatural. "Micah, are you aware you can’t stay here?" "Your father will be hunting you down until he finds you." He looked at me and nodded. "I know Aunt Jess, thank you for accepting her, I will send someone to train her one day, but I know I have to let go for now" He hugged me and kissed the girl on her nose, “her name is Enigmia” I lifted a brow in surprise. “OK, Enigmia it is”. "Can you teleport me to the dark forest's border, Aunt Jess?" he pleaded. I agreed and told him to go clean up, but he declined, stating it might look suspicious walking out of the forest clean after three days of being missing. I gave him a warm smile. "Are you ready?" He nodded, and I teleported him into the dark forest right behind the borderline... -Micah- I stared towards the forest, my heart felt at peace. Bye Enigmia, one day we will meet again. I whispered to myself, turning towards the border, I made my way back towards the village…
