Six years later I would say that Nicholas has grown a lot bigger. Each day as he advances in age he keeps looking at his father. It was like a torment and a torn on my skin. Everyday when I dress my son for school and I look at his features, I am reminded of his father. Is this the pain that I will have to go through for the rest of my life? I would have aborted him if I wanted. I mean, I wasn't too late to do that. I would just flush out my pregnancy then live a normal life like every single lady should. Maybe now I would have linked up with Alex. Alex had been trying to reach out to me for long but I had been avoiding him because of his crazy wife. Though he did manage to get divorced and he kept pursuing me but I just didn't want trouble. I wanted to leave a peaceful life with my son. If there was one thing that I was glad my son possessed, it was the brain of his father. Nicholas was smart true and true. He was a really smart guy and my son took from that trait. Another trait he took from his father was his attractiveness. He made a lot of girls swoon at him even at his little age but I had warned Nicholas. “Love is not for little kids.” One particular day, Nicholas came back with a little kid wearing the same uniform as his. Probably a classmate. He brought the boy into the house and introduced me to him. “Mom, this is my classmate Max.” He pointed at his friend at the right in a very cute manner. I crouched and waved my hands at Max, “Hello Max, how are you?” “I am fine ma. Nicholas told me a lot about you. He told me you are a good cook and you s***k a lot.” “Arghh!” I pointed my eyes at Nicholas, “so you have been gossiping about me.” “Yes,” Max replied, “he told me that you're scary but all I can see is your beauty.” So corny. Then he tucked his hand into his bag and brought out a little crumpled flower. “Will you be my girlfriend ma?” I took the flower laughing. Who is teaching this kid all these pickup lines? “I even brought my father with me. He's outside making a call but he'll come in soon.” The door creaked open. My nemesis. What I had been avoiding for years finally landed in front of me. “Sophia,” Ethan said, “it's been a long time.” Ethan had grown older. He looked different. Like a hot older version of himself back then. He looked so mature and respectable. My eyes narrowed. So many questions were running through my mind. I didn't know which one to start with. “Ethan,” I whispered loudly, “what are you doing here?” The kids stayed looking at us confused. Ethan gestured to Max, “This is my son. He's been telling me about your son Nicholas and how he's been helping him in school.” My eyes ran down and met with Max. Now I remember, it's his son with Rachel. The product of their betrayal and infidelity. A product of a disgusting affair. “Nicholas, Max, can you two step out for a bit.” “Okay mom.” Nicholas and Max said leaving the room. Ethan stepped forward locking his eyes with me, “I know I hurt you Sophia. But I'm here to make amends.” He came closer, “I want to be part of my son's life, and I want to make things right with you.” I laughed bitterly, “Make amends? After everything you did?” “I know i don't deserve it but I'm begging you.. to please.. find a place in your heart to forgive me.” He moved closer invading my personal space. “Forgive you?” I smirked bitterly, “You've got to be kidding.” I walked out on him and went upstairs. I don't know what happened to him after that and I don't care. I just made lunch for my son and placed it on the dining table pretending not to see him as his eyes panced around. He later left with his son. Ethan, the man who betrayed my trust had the guts to ask me for forgiveness. Is he playing with my emotions? He must be sorely joking for trying to. And to make matters worse, his son was now friends with mine. Now there was a link between his family and mine. I didn't know how to tell Nicholas that he should stop hanging around Max. He would hate me if I get in the way. Maybe we should move out and find him a new school. Anything to get away from that evil man. I had been trying to avoid Ethan but he had been showing up all over me. There was a time that I even went for their school's pta meeting and I saw him coming after me. He even had the audacity to ask me for coffee knowing fully well that he was married to my ex fake best friend, Rachel, who was so lazy that she couldn't even get her own man so she had to steal one. He claimed that he wanted to make amends and just talk things out like two grown adults. I agree, Ethan had grown over the years but I didn't really feel that this is something we should be talking about. Let sleeping dogs lie. I just told him that we had nothing to talk about as always. One evening when I was putting Nicholas to bed he looked up at me with his innocent eyes and asked me a really sensitive question. “Mom, why doesn't Max's dad like you?” I was confused, “What do you mean sweetie?” I rubbed his head lovingly. “Well, Max told me yesterday that his dad says bad things about you sometimes.” My son replied with a concerned voice. I should have known it. Nothing good would ever come out from that bastard and I am so glad that I never gave him the time of day. I was angry though. A part of me was angry. So Ethan had the mind to poison his son's mind against me? Now this was the final straw. I kissed my son goodnight and went out snapping his bedroom door close. As I moved to my bedroom, I heard a knock on the door. Who could be knocking at such an odd time in the night? I went over to the door and opened it. It was Ethan. “Sophia, we need to talk.” We need to talk. We need to talk. I remember that line, that particular line that I used on Ethan some years back when he was cheating on me. Ethan we need to talk. “We have nothing to talk about.” I swallowed hard. He should go and sleep, he has a wife. Is Rachel so clumpsy that she can't keep her man tied to the house? Oh yeah, I'm sure he lied to her that he's going to stay at the office working overnight. “Mom,” I looked up and saw Nicholas staring at me from up the stairs. He had woken up. “Why is Max's dad here? What is going on?” I took a deep breath and moved closer to my baby. “It's a long story sweetie. Just know that Max's dad and I have a complicated history.” “Is he the reason why you and dad divorced?” “Let's just say he's a big part of it.” I rubbed his hair, “Nicholas go to your room.” I swallowed hard remembering that Ethan was still there hovering like a loser. Nicholas finally got into his bedroom and I went down to meet Ethan. “Sophia, please listen to me.” He said with a low voice, “I know i have hurt you, but I have changed. I want to be part of my son's life. I want to make things right with you.” He grabbed my hands and looked at my eyes lovingly. He was he trying to fool with those eyes of his? I am not stupid and naive like before? “You want to make things right?” I chuckled midway, “this has to be the biggest joke of today. You know you'll do great as a stand up comedian.” “I am being serious Sophia.” He moved closer. “You destroyed our marriage,” I poked his chest, “you broke my heart into uncountable pieces. And now you're coming here to tell me this?” I glared at him in anger, “I will never forgive you. I would rather bury myself alive than do that.” “I know I broke you Sophia but listen. I love you. I have always loved you. I don't know what Rachel did to me. She put me under a spell. She's a witch I'm telling you. I was not in my right mind.” he came closer and rubbed his hand on my chin, “I want a second chance.”
