Telling the parents/ knowing the truth

The other three got back from hunting late Drake and I were sitting in the living watching a movie cuddled on the couch. The look I gave Blake was a look I used to give him when I knew he was keeping a secret from me. He looked shocked, but walked over to me gave me a paper bag with a smile on his face and left the room, they took Donnie to bed. Drake and I just sat on the couch watching the movie.

            Don’t’ you think you should take the test?

            I’ll do it in the morning, I want to get up early and see where I can do the GED test so I can get it over with. I want to see my parents before we leave for Romania, please.

            Absolutely babe anything you want. Is there anything else you need or want to do babe?

            I don’t know it depends on when we leave here, how are we getting to Romania?

            Dad will send his jet to us.

            You mean we don’t turn into bats or fly?

            Oh we do Donnie can’t yet.

            Oh I forgot about him, so what do we do turn into bats or fly?

            Fly when we get home I will show you.

            Ok, I’m tired can we go to bed?

            Of course

That night when we went to bed I had a dream that we were being attacked by the people whose son we saved they told us that we were monsters and we deserved to die. They don’t care if we saved their son we were vampires we shouldn’t even exist. They had stakes and torches the only way to escape was to fly but I didn’t want to leave Donnie he couldn’t fly yet he was still a baby. I was tossing and turning I must have screamed in my sleep because I was being woken up by Drake but everybody was in the room looking at me.

            “What’s wrong?”

                        “You were screaming and kicking in your sleep, did you have a bad dream?”

                        “Yes the family of the little boy was coming after us with stakes and torches the only way to escape was to fly and Donnie can’t fly yet so I lost him again. Those people don’t know where we are do they?”

            “No they don’t but it doesn’t matter any way we made them forget we existed or helped their son, as far as they know a hunter found Tucker and took him to the hospital the only one that knows the truth is us and Tucker and I don’t think they believe him since he lost a lot of blood. Any ways its almost dawn, Donnie its time for you to sleep. Nikki when your body fully changes you will sleep during the day as well but for now we will be up with you.”

            “Well then if you excuse me Drake and I have stuff to do.”

            As in stuff I meant the pregnancy test and finding when they were holding the next test for the GED. As I was taking the pregnancy test Drake was looking online for a place close to my high school to do the GED test. We had to wait five minutes for the test, as we were waiting we called put my name in for the test which I will be taking a week from tomorrow which is a Friday. We pulled up all the subjects and what I needed to do for the test, Drake said we could go to my house to pick up my school books later in the day, we finished on the computer and went into the bathroom to check the test.

            “Negative I’m not pregnant make sure we leave this so my brother and your sister will see.”

            “Yup, I’ll do that and tell them we are taking off and will be home later.”

            “Okay.”

            Was I disappointed I wasn’t pregnant, yes, but I knew in my heart when the time was right I would get my chance to be a mom. I was a little too young to become a mom, I just turned eighteen I haven’t graduated high school my time will come maybe when we get settled in at home aka the castle everything will come together then for now I am happy to be with my brothers. Don’t get me wrong I love my parents but they were never really there for any of us, they were only there when we got into trouble or got hurt. But we raised ourselves or the nannies did. The only one my parents cared about was Donnie because he was the baby I was the middle and Blake the oldest. So when I got in that car accident two years ago and I survived and Donnie died my parents were a bit disappointed, my mom never said the exact words but I could tell when her and dad talked that they wished I had died. Well they have their wish cause as soon as I take the test I am gone and they will probably never see me again. And when I turn twenty one I will get my inheritance, thinking about it I wonder if they ever got Donnie taken off the will.

            When we got to my house the only person that was there was Heidi, she was my nanny when I was little. Drake and I entered the house and went upstairs, there we found Heidi cleaning out mine and Blake’s room as if we have already left.

            “Heidi what’s going on why are you cleaning out my room?”

            “Your mom and dad haven’t told you?”

            “Told me what?”

            “Oh dear, um give me a few minutes I’ll be right back.”

            As Heidi was leaving the room I texted Blake and told him to leave Donnie at home with Shelby and to come home fast. As soon as I sent the message Blake walked through the door.

            “Nikki what’s going on?”

            “I came home to find Heidi cleaning out our rooms I haven’t looked at Donnie’s yet when I asked her what was going on she asked if mom and dad talked to me yet, when I said no she left the room to make a phone call.”

            “Okay wait here I will go see what is going on.” Blake went to find Heidi as Drake and I looked through boxes to find my school books. By the time we found the right box Blake came back into the room and said mom and dad were home and would like to see us in the family room.

            “Drake I think it is best to stay here for now you can listen in but don’t show yourself to our parents please.”

            “Yes I think that would be best.”

            Blake and I went downstairs to meet our parents in the family room, as we entered the room the air felt heavy. I could tell right away that mom was sick I could smell the sickness in her veins. It made me want to throw up, I looked at my brother and he put his hand on my shoulder and told me to not breathe.

            “Blake its so good to see you, we should have called you two sooner but everything happened too fast. Nikki love we love you both. Please sit.”

            “Mom what is going on why is Heidi packing up our rooms?”

            “Your mom and I are selling the house and move to where the hospitals and the research is better. Your mom got diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and we decided to move to get the best doctors and the most comfortable hospital until the very end. We were just packing up the rooms first feel free to finish or take what you want now.”

            “Were you going to tell us at all or just wait until mom died!”

            “Nicole! We were going to tell you, we… I just found out last week at my doctors appointment. I went in for a physical when they found serval masses all over my kidneys, as they did more ultrasounds they found that they have spread throughout my whole body. I got the test results a couple of days ago we just started to clean out the rooms.”

            “Have you done Donnie’s yet?”

            “No.”

            “Can we do it?”

            “Yes, we are going out of state to find a hospital from the list we have and a place to live, we will be gone for a couple of weeks. Feel free to stay and clean out your rooms and Donnie’s if you like.”

            “If we come can you make sure none of the staff is here we want it to be just us so we can remember the memories of growing up in this house with Donnie.”

            “Sure the staff will not be here.”

            “When are you leaving?”

            “We were thinking tomorrow night.”

            “Okay we will be back before you leave tomorrow.”

            “Okay that sounds great, again we are sorry we didn’t tell you sooner. We didn’t want you to find out this way.”

            “Mom I love you I always will but you need to quit lying to us. I know you blamed me for Donnie I know you wished it was me, but the facts are I wish it was me too. Donnie still had his whole life ahead of him, my life was finished all I had to do was graduate high school. Cause you and I both know that you really didn’t like me, Blake is the oldest, and Donnie was the baby I was your mistake.”

            “Nicole…”

            “Don’t say anything that will make me look like the bad guy, I remember the hospital room those two years ago after the accident I overheard you tell dad that you wished it was me that died, you told dad that you should have had the abortion when you got the chance because you didn’t want me. I heard you, all I ever did was try and get your love all I wanted was your affection I wanted to see the same love in your eyes with me every time Blake or Donnie walked into the room, you looked at me like I was a monster. Why didn’t you love me like you loved them?”

            “Okay… okay its time to tell her the truth Lily. Sit down all of you, I’ll be right back.”

Babe are you okay, do you want me to come downstairs and knock on the door?

            No I’ll be okay just stay where you are.

            “Alright Nicole you want the truth, you might of heard us say that we wanted you to die instead of Donnie but that is wrong we love all three of you as if you were our own. You see your mother wasn’t supposed to have kids you and Blake were already in the system we wanted to have kids so bad that we decided to adopt. You and Blake are blood related you both had the same parents they were druggies and you two got taken away. Blake was four and you were just a baby maybe a couple months old, we were told that we didn’t have to take you both but Blake cried every time someone took his sister from him he promised as a four year old child to not let anything hurt his sissy. So we ended up adopting you both, you two were our world you got anything and everything you wanted, you two grew up so fast you had different personalities. Then eight years later Donnie was born you were his best friend ever since he came out of your mother. We made some mistakes after Donnie, he was our blood we forgot about you two. We are truly sorry for all the birthdays we missed, the vacations we should of done as a family. After the accident we weren’t mad at you, it was not your fault that the driver of the truck was drunk and ran a red light, we were mad at life. We were mad at God for not protecting you both, we were mad at the world, we were mad at ourselves for thinking the way we did. When we got the phone call that night and they said that our children were in a really bad car accident and one of them didn’t make it I have to admit I prayed to God that it wasn’t Donnie only because he was our miracle child. But when I found out it was Donnie I was pissed but at the same time relived because the baby girl I got to know and love was still hanging tough, when I walked into the hospital room and saw you hooked up to machines and how bruised and beaten up you looked I cried your mom and I had to figured out how we were going to handle telling you that your best friend died that you should of died as well but something some sort of miracle held on to you. We never in a million years meant to hurt you. Your mother and I love you, and some times when parents love too much we tend to push the people we care about the most away. We never wanted to push the two of you away. But you are both adults now and this is us pushing you away, make your own decisions in life, if you want to finish high school fine if you want to test out that is fine too just know that no matter where the two of you are in life we love you. And we know you are different.”

                I didn’t know what to say I just sat there crying, it was silent for a few minutes until Blake spoke up.

            “What do you meant you know we are different?”

            “I have read so many books on why Nikki being in such a bad car accident would walk out of the hospital like nothing ever happened to you looking so young.”

            “And what did you come up with?”

            “We know you two are vampires, back in the day we used to go to clubs filled of them. We know what they look like and we can tell.”

            “Okay so you know what we are, are you going to turn us in?”

            “No, you are still our children no matter the outcome.”

            “Then I have to tell you I am a vampire princess and my prince is upstairs.”

            “Then bring him down let’s meet him.”

            No sooner was those words spoken Drake came down the stairs.

            “Mom and this is my boyfriend Drake he saved my life the day I was in the car accident. If it wasn’t for him I would be dead.”

            “Actually there is something else we need to tell you but you need to get the staff out of here. Nik, Drake stay here and talk to mom and dad for awhile I have to go get something.”

            “Sure, we will make sure the staff is gone when you get here.”

            I knew where Blake was going, he was going to get Donnie. Dad gave the staff the day off and told them to get out of the house for awhile by the time dad was sure everybody was out of the house Blake was back with Shelby and Donnie.

            “Mom this is my wife Shelby she is the one that is renting the cabin, we have been living there since the accident to take care of a young vampire. Both you and dad need to remember that the four of us are older and can control ourselves more than the young one can. Shelby can you go get him please?”

            “Yes.”

            “Remember to stay clam I don’t know what he will do.”

            Shelby came in with Donnie we were all scared he was going to attack them but he stood there looking at them before running over and giving them a hug he was crying, he hugged dad then he hugged mom.

            “Mom are you sick, I can smell something bad in your blood, it’s making Nikki sick that is why she is holding her breath.”

            “Yes baby, I have cancer.”

            “Mom dad you can’t tell anybody that Donnie isn’t in the coffin, if anybody finds out the truth we all including you two will be in dire danger.”

            “Who would believe us anyways, we are just happy to see all our kids together. Is Donnie going to look like he is eight years old forever?”

            “No he will grow up just like a normal kid when he hits the age of eighteen he will quit growing and ageing, we will know how old he is each year but he will forever be eighteen, or in this case eight cause that is the age he died at.”

            “Can I know who saved him?”

            “Yeah Drake who saved  him?”

            “I did before I saved Nikki, but I had Jay and Travis move the bodies around of the little boys.”

            “I hate to do this but it is getting late and your mother is getting tired, are you going to stay the night here?”

            “Donnie can’t be around here with all the neighbors and the staff if they return so Shelby and I will take him home, Nikki and Drake can stay here if they want to.”

            “Yeah I would like to stay that way we can be here in case something happens to mom, and I can get some studying done for my GED test.”
