Overlord

I didn't expect the streets to be so crowded. There were actually people outside, children playing in the snow, adults watching over them with an all too familiar look, one of complication. While the children were playing at this blessing, the adults were worried, wondering if this was the last time they would see their children again. See them smile, and play outside. I guess that's why they decided it was better to spend whatever is left of their time joyfully, rather than in trepidation. But then again, there were some adults that went about their day as if nothing happened, the ones who believed this was just another anomaly in the long list of things f*****g up humanity and like those things, it will lose it's luster soon. Ignorance truly is bliss. There was no one in particular that came to my mind, I grew up in a foster home, my foster parents hated me, but my foster adored me. Maybe I should call him? Tell him that the world is ending? Nah… What good would that do? The cold is biting, others couldn't tell, but for some reason I could tell that it was getting colder. I took out my cellphone. The weather recorded a temperature of minus six degrees celcius. It felt colder. My pupils widened as I focused on the floating icons in my vision, icons visible to only myself. [ Countdown till the apocalypse: 00:9:59 ] Nine minutes left. I couldn't access the system even though it had been awakened, and after a moment of consideration, I realised it was probably waiting. Waiting for the apocalypse. The beginning of the end. Would there be monsters? Are there others with a system? Since it's just the beginning, does that mean everyone will survive? Or that humanity will have just enough survivors to make sure the race doesn't go extinct. I lost my trail of thoughts, and before I knew it, the time dawned upon me. [ Countdown to the apocalypse: 00:00:00 ] The timer finally ran its course. I don't know what I expected, maybe a fracture in the sky, or a rip in space or something, a sign, anything. Instead, all I heard was the chiming sounds of the system ringing in my ears. [ Kernel Awakening… ] [ Sensing Profession… ] [ Awakening Profession ] [ Profession (Overlord) Awakened Successfully ] [ Fusing Kernel with the Pious Vice System… ] [ Kernel Fusion Successful! ] [ Recalibrating System… ] [ Recalibration Complete! ] The long string of notifications finally came to an end, and what followed was a new floating icon replacing the timer. [ View status? ] I agreed, and immediately, a panel revealed itself to me. [ Name: Dominik Darnell ] [ Race: Human ] [ Profession: Overlord (Mythic) ] [ Level: 0 ] [ Exp: 0/100 ] [ Rank: Lord (F-Rank) ] [ Talents: Architect of the Wasteland (Uncommon), Carnal Revenue (Epic), Eye of Transgression (Rare) ] [ Sinner(s): Dante Eyodoro (F-Rank) ] [ Skills: — ] [ Traits: Landlord’s Decree (Uncommon) ] [ Stats: Strength (5), Speed (7), Dexterity (6), Intelligence (10), Wisdom (6), Charisma (3) ] [ Inventory: Land Lease (rare) ] [ Currency: Desire Coins (10), Evil Coins (20) ] [ Access System Market ] I stared at the panel before me, and I already instinctively knew how to use it. ‘Something tells me this isn't how it's supposed to be. It fused with something… I'm guessing I'm not the only special one in the apocalypse.’ With a thought, I willed more information to appear, and I began to read through my information. Knowing oneself is the first step to success, and in this case, survival. Although everything seemed normal, I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread clawing at my heart and crawling up my spine. [ Architect of the Wasteland ] [ Type: Talent (Profession related active skill) ] [ Rank: Uncommon ] [ Description: Grants the Overlord the ability to seamlessly manifest, place, and structurally modify rooms, defensive fortifications, and miscellaneous survival installations within his designated domain. All structural manifestations are executed directly through the system interface and require the consumption of specific building blueprints along with their corresponding raw material resources. ] [ Proficiency: 0% ] … [ Carnal Revenue ] [ Type: Talent (Profession related active skill) ] [ Rank: Epic ] [ Description: Seeds the souls of dominated entities to harvest psychological tribute. Either through a contract or otherwise, the host plants a Seed of Desire in female targets through carnal i*********e, or a Seed of Evil in male targets through peak humiliation. Once the seed is germinated, the host passively extracts Desire Coins or Evil Coins every single time the target harbors lustful, obsessive, or intensely hateful thoughts toward him. The coin gained scales higher depending on the target's Gauge Tier. ] [ Proficiency: 0% ] … [ Eye of Transgression ] [ Type: Talent (Profession related active skill) ] [ Rank: Rare ] [ Description: Projects a spiritual mark upon a chosen target that unlocks a specialized information panel which deepens based on Gauge Tier. It also grants a specialised extraction mechanic that allows the host to spend 10 Evil or Desire coins to trigger a gacha roll to gain one of the marked target's personal skills, talents, or traits. ] [ Proficiency: 0% ] … [ Landlord's Decree ] [ Type: Trait (Profession related passive skill) ] [ Rank: Common ] [ Description: Manifests a permanent 1000-foot spatial sanctuary centered on the host's first deployment site. Within this boundary, the host can issue Tenant Contracts that force absolute behavioral compliance, alongside the power to instantly evict any trespasser or rule-breaker at will. This administrative control is absolute as long as the territory's defenses and walls aren't completely destroyed. ] [ Proficiency: 0% ] … Even in the freezing cold, I felt heat rapidly rush to my face as I read the descriptions of my profession’s talent and traits. ‘What the hell is even this profession? It's like I'm a real estate slut.’ Still, even with shame blossoming in my heart, I was thrilled at the prospects of what these abilities would bring. A mythic grade profession, something was telling me this was close to the pinnacle, if not the pinnacle of professions. My brows furrowed as I glanced over the ‘sinners’ section, after reading the description of ‘Eye of Transgression’, I understood what it implied. ‘He must have been even more humiliated than I thought.’ I chucked evilly and without a second thought, I viewed his information.
