Chapter 22 I woke with a stiff back, an achy hip, a throbbing head, and a beating heart. Why was it still beating when I thought it had been broken? I peeled my face from the fabric and pulled the pillowcase off the pillow. From the mess of lipstick, mascara and snot mashed into the pillowcase, I didn’t want to look at my face. I didn’t want anyone else to see it either, but I couldn’t have a shower until I got this dress off, and I needed help with that. I crept down to Rachael’s door and tapped. Nothing. I knocked a little louder and pressed my ear to the door. I couldn’t hear anything. She must have slept at Xavier’s. I didn’t bother putting my ear against Mandy’s door, I could hear her snoring from the hallway. She wouldn’t hear me over that racket, so there was no point knocking.
