A sound drifted through me. It was a voice, but muffled, like I was under water. I heard my name and the sound got louder and louder. The sound of machines entered my brain and I struggled to remember where I was. “Carrie. I need you to wake up now Carrie,” the voice shouted next to me. “That’s it, Carrie, open your eyes.” I pried my eyes open and was immediately hit by the bright lights above me.
