The Emperor's Gamble

--- *Episode 14: Morning light filtered through the palace as Emperor Jian read Liyue’s letter. His hands trembled slightly—*not from fear, but from realization*. The girl they thought was just a fallen noble’s daughter had become a force no one could tame. He looked to his advisors. “She’s demanding more than justice… she wants power.” One minister murmured, “And she already has the people’s favor. If you silence her now, there will be unrest.” Another warned, “But if you give her ground, the Crown Prince’s legacy will crumble.” The Emperor exhaled slowly. “Then we balance. We test her.” --- That same day, a royal decree was issued: *Lady Liyue Tang was to be appointed the new Imperial Advisor for Internal Affairs*—a role that gave her access to court decisions, noble records, and even military reports. The nobles gasped. “She’s climbing too fast,” one whispered. “She’s replacing Zhaohan’s influence piece by piece,” another said. Zhaohan, still under surveillance, tore the scroll in fury. “She dares sit in my seat?” Shen Weining stepped beside him. “Then take it back. But this time, finish her properly.” Liyue arrived at her new post dressed in black and gold, her mother’s pendant shining against her chest. She bowed before the Emperor—but didn’t kneel. He noticed. “You walk boldly for someone who once served from the shadows.” “I was forced into the shadows,” she replied. “Now I walk where I was meant to.” The Emperor gave a small smile. “Very well, Advisor Tang. Show me your worth.” --- That night, Tang Shi met her at the pavilion. “You’ve stepped into the lion’s den,” he said. Liyue looked at him, calm. “Let them roar. I have sharper teeth.” He chuckled softly. “So you do.” Then his gaze darkened. “But be careful. I received word—Shen Weining has called in a foreign assassin. Silent. Untraceable.” Liyue’s eyes narrowed. “Let her try. This time, I’ll leave a trail of blood she’ll never clean.” --- In the distance, hidden behind layers of silk curtains, *a figure in silver armor* stepped off a merchant boat. His eyes cold. His blade sharp. He whispered, “Target: Lady Liyue Tang.” And so, the next phase began.
