He braced his foot against a nearby tree, pulling with enough force to make me wonder if he was trying to dislocate my limbs. “Shut up,” he growled, his tone cold and final. My throat felt tight, but I couldn’t stop the words from tumbling out. “Who are you? What do you want from me?” I stammered, my voice trembling despite my attempt to sound brave. He didn’t answer.
