CHAPTER 2

1537 Words
A young man comes down from a ladder with a book. I feel my cheeks blush as I get a glimpse of his flat tummy. Silly me. Tiffany never told me her boss is a young man of probably twenty-two or three. The man adjusts his glasses and oddly then like. The glasses don't make him nerdy, instead, his oval face compliments the glasses. His black light skin and well-built form give off a sexy look. "Tiffany, today's your day off. what are you doing here and who is the Mademoiselle in your company" his smooth voice rolls out the words. Tiffany rolls her eyes "Which do you want me to answer first ? Anyways this is Verity. Verity please meet my esteemed employer Hakeem" she introduces us with a bow. Hakeem seems to be used to her goofy moods because he only chuckles. Hakeem smiles at me " Nice to meet you Verity. You are the new pack member ?" he said whilst his hands grab mine firmly "Yeah," I say frowning. I wonder if everyone will care about our presence. It's awkward to be the center of attention in a town, especially one you barely know. "As if reading my thoughts " Don't worry, I'm sure it will die down soon" I nod back in gratitude. "So what do I offer the guest, are you a fan of books or coffee?" "You can start by offering her a job" Tiffany chips in. "Oh, you want a job, Verity?" he asks leading us out of the library. "Yes" "I see" he answers while maneuvering his way with the coffee maker "Do you like books, Verity?" "Yes I do" "So you'll know how to take care of them. It's settled then. You have the Job" "What? " I accidentally spill a bit of coffee on his hands. He chuckles "It's okay," he says wiping his hands like it's nothing and dismissing my apologies. "Thank you" I stutter "When can I begin?" " I wouldn't mind today but because of the feast, you can start tomorrow" Oh yeah, the feast Tiffany told me about. "I'm not going so…" I began " Speak no more love, you are going" Tiffany exclaims wide-eyed " I mean we just got here and I don't think we are invited " "Don't stress love, it's compulsory for every pack member. I'm sure you've got an invite already " Hakeem says with a wink " Alright, I'll let you girls run along. Tiffany, please don't get drunk, supplies are coming in tomorrow and I can't stand your hangovers" he adds " I feel insulted" she exclaims dramatically. "Alright, we gotta run. Bye, Hakeem" she announces. "Thank you Hakeem and sorry about your hand" I mutter He smirks with an amused smile "see you around Verity" "Mom, Eli " I shout out as I open the door No one answers. As if on cue the door opens again, and my mom strolls in with bags of groceries. "Hey sweetie, you've been home long?" "No, Just got here and where's Eli?" "Oh at Chatity's with the twins. Did you get the job?" " Yes, I did. I'll start tomorrow, where did you get the grocery?" "Charity took me around town. The good news is we don't need to drive much. Bad news, for someone like you the is kinda nosy but it's okay here" " No s**t, they kept staring at me. Oh mom have you heard about the feast?" "Yeah, got an invite from the alpha," she says while unpacking the grocery. " Looks like we'll be going after all, "I add falling into the sofa " Yeah and I start work tomorrow" my mother answers. "Alright, going for a nap" I announce. I lay in bed thinking of how much life has shifted within a few weeks. My mother let go of the man that sired me and us moving thousands of miles away. The town is bearable because of Tiffany and her family, maybe it wouldn't be so bad here. When I wake up, it's already evening. I suddenly have the urge to go for a run. I haven't stretched my paws in a few days and I remember Tiffany telling me the woods are safe, their borders are guarded by the pack security so definitely no humans snooping around. Eli isn't back and mom must be asleep, I take the back door welcoming the chill evening. The woods call unto me and I almost let my wolf take over. Instead, I ignore the urge and walk deeper into the woods until I find a spot for my clothes. I shift and let my wolf take over. It feels like being free, my large paws run with great speed. The wind as usual joins me and I savor every moment of the race. My race included me haunting as my wolf hasn't eaten for a while. I track a deer steadily, my grey eyes and heightened sense listening to every movement. I accidentally snap the branch and the animal bolts on realizing that it is being preyed on. But I'm faster, I take one jump, my paws grabbing it before I sink my teeth into the animal. I'm about to head home when a scent hits me. My wolf stirs in excitement, I find myself running and sniffing the air. I follow the scent until it disappears, whosoever owns it was long gone. "I'm not a big fan of that one," Tiffany says for the umpteenth time She has gone through my whole closet which she helped arrange this morning, looking for a perfect outfit for the feast. "Tiffany I don't think I have the right outfit for the feast. Not like I knew I would be attending any feast" She rolls her eyes " I'm not big on the feast but I'm not wearing jeans and a shirt, just put on a gown like the brown one. It's fitting and complements your skin." "Whatever " but I change from the plain jeans to the dress and Tiffany was right. She raises her brow in a way that indicates "see, I told you so" "Yeah, yeah. Let's go" The twins and Eli are already dressed and we meet them talking about werewolf furs. Eli certainly found the best partners in his wolf theories. " My sister's wolf is black, like really huge" Eli boasts The twins looked intrigued as they stared at me. George speaks up" Tiffany's is a light shade of brown, almost blonde like her hair" "And since we are twins, we think we will have the same wolf. cool right? " Ron adds The three of them continued spinning theories until my mom and charity are ready. Mom and the boys ride with the charity while I and Tiffany drive my mom's car. I trail behind them until we arrive at the venue. The alpha's house is a big one with a stretching backyard into the woods. I pack just behind them and our parties alight from the cars. The sound of festive people and decorations spans the land not far from the alpha's house. The whole town seemed to be there and in quite a festive mood. Charity leads us into the crowd, stopping to say Hi every few steps. She keeps leading us till we stop at a group of people. "Where are we going? '' I whisper to Tiffany. "To meet the Alpha" she answered "Alpha Baron? " Charity called out The man with stylish hair just turning gray focuses on us. He looks like he is in his late fifties, beside him a woman of about the same age stands with poise. Her brown hair is packed to pun and her lips glisten with bright lipstick. The other companies included a black couple equally matched to their alpha in poise and beauty. And two other aged men. "Hi, there charity, and this must be sal?" He says reaching out to shake my mother's hand with a smile. "Yes, nice to finally meet you alpha" my mother replied while taking his hands. "Nice to meet you too, this is my wife Fiona, my Beta Don, and his wife Samantha. And…" he continued his introduction My wolf becomes restless while I try to calm her down. I hear the alpha's wife. "You are welcome to Albaysa town and pack" I zone out again as I try to calm my overly excited wolf. "Verity, are you okay?" my mom's voice pierces through my thoughts. I find out everyone's focus is on me. " Yes," I mutter unsteadily. Still, my wolf stares in greater excitement and I sniff the scent I perceived earlier today. I feel the scent getting closer and closer. With each second my wolf gets even more excited. I can hear voices in the background calling my name but I ignore them, too focused on the climaxed restlessness of the wolf. I feel the scent come to a still and I heed his direction. Its owner stood before me with alluring eyes and styled black hair. Suddenly it all becomes clear, my wolf's restlessness and the alluring scent. Just a few steps from me stood my mate.
