VERITY
With burning rage, I yelled "What makes you think you have a right over my life Lukas? Just because the moon goddess decided to make us mates doesn't mean you can make choices for me or control me. I'm not quitting my job"
Lukas' eyes burn with fury and frustration as he runs his hands through his hair, his mouth square in anger.
How dare he? How dare he ask me to stop working?
First, his father threatens my family and now he tries to decide my life for me.
He takes a deep breath before opening his mouth with his face still fixed in a frown
"Verity, I'm not comfortable with you working there. Besides as my mate, you don't need the modest pay"
I take the blow of the insult "Modest pay?"
He smirks "You know I didn't mean it like that. Look Verity my father doesn't even like you working there and I agree with him"
I'm not surprised by his father's leash and shadow still haunting me.
I take a deep breath. " I'm not going to resign from a job because you don't like its owner, not for you or your damn father."
I don't wait for his reaction because I hear the familiar car horn.
"You okay?" Tiffany asks as soon as I enter the car.
"Yeah, I'm good"
My day is as cranky as it can get, I barely say a few words to Tiffany and I stay out of Hakeem's way.
I'm only too glad when the day is finally over, my wolf is itching for a run and I'm guilty of denying her one these past days.
The bell rings signifying someone's entrance. I'm about to tell the person we are closed for the day when I meet the eyes of the person I least expected.
"Lukas ?"
He offers a warm smile, his eyes lighting up in innocence.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to pick you up?"
I snap my tongue and roll my eyes.
"Don't remember asking you to, I'm perfectly capable of finding my way to your housemates"
He pleads "Verity, I'm sorry about this morning. okay can you hear me out"
"Lukas, we can talk when I get back. I'm at work and besides Tiffany will drop me off"
His brows furrows in disagreement and began in a soft tone " Please Verity, just give me a chance to tell you I'm sorry"
He looks sincere enough and I find myself saying yes.
"Tiffany is in the library, let me inform her ". I tell him
He offers me a wide grin "Yes ma'am "
I find Tiffany and Hakeem making some entries.
"Hey guys, I'm gonna head out"
Tiffany stares at me like I have grown horns "Ummmh b***h have you forgotten I'm dropping you off"
I reward her with an eye roll " Lukas is here to pick me up"
Tiffany mouths an "Oh" before frowning
"And here I thought you were my excuse out of here"
She demonstrates her hands over piles of books and documents.
Hakeem and I chorus a laugh.
His oval face looks up, his glasses well fitted
"Well, it looks like you are stuck here, Tiff. You should get going Verity "
I nod "Bye guys"
****
Surprisingly Lukas derails from the usual road to our house. He notices my frown and smiles at me.
"Be patient mate" he throws my word back at me.
Immediately a familiar row of houses greets my sight, I'm still surprised when he pulls up the driveway.
"You've been so busy and I thought stopping by your family's house will help relieve the stress"
"Thank you Lukas" I mutter with a smile just as Eli who must have seen me from the window burst out the door.
"Hey buddy, are you good?" I ask in between laughs
His familiar gray eyes light up " Are you staying?"
I nod in a negative "But I wanna hear everything about your week and School "
That does the trick for his sad face. My mother is happy to see me and I end up staying for dinner with Lukas.
"Thank you, I really needed that," I tell Lukas immediately as he pulls up in our driveway.
He smiles and I notice his facial structure and perfect jawline and we'll shave the beard. the His alluring eyes hold mine
"I know you didn't want a mate but here we are. Since I was a kid I looked forward to the day I would meet my destined mate. I was appalled when you rejected me, I know it's a lot but we can make this work, only if you let me. " his eyes plead
I feel my wolf and the mate bond push me into saying what I also think is the right thing to say
"Yeah"
And so every day Lukas drops and picks me up from work, and some days we head to my family's. On other days we drive outside town and today is one of those days.
The chill evening air fills the car as I bump my head to the song in the stereo. My tummy grumbles.
"Lukas can I eat the damn take-outs It's not fair that I'm famished but there's damn food backseat "
My stomach supports me by grumbling again.
Lukas let's out a chuckle "Chill, we are almost home."
"It's the same you know, eating in the car or home
"Verity just chill, " Lukas tells me again.
I watch the trees and landscape as we near the pack, I stick my hands outside the window. I let the wind flow with it …
I shower first as soon as we return and I spend a good amount of time in the bathroom. As soon as I opened the door, the scent of food sizzled through my nose.
But I stop in my tracks when I find candles on the table and somehow the takeouts we bought have been turned into platters of dishes on the large dining table.
I chuckle "Really Lukas, this is why you wouldn't let me eat. "
He fakes a frown " I have no idea of whatever you are talking about. "
He pulls out a seat for me and sits beside me. I feel my wolf melt in excitement and love, it must be the scented fresheners because I feel the mate bond stronger than I have ever.
"You okay," Lukas asks with concern
"Yeah" I lie.
We continue dinner with me feeling guilty about all of Lukas's efforts towards our relationship. His father's sins don't even seem to matter now.
I take another sip from my glass of wine listening to Lukas talk about growing up and his college Life.
He adores his father and I feel sad for him that he doesn't know the kind of man his father is.
We continue our little talks and I share bits from my childhood, leaving stories concerning my father and only focusing on the positive part.
The bottle of wine keeps reducing and I'm more relaxed. Again I laugh at something Lukas says.
I don't know if it's the wine or the mate bond but when Lukas leans and his mouth takes mine, I don't resist. His tongue rolls in mine gently, I can feel my mate jump in excitement while his lips linger.

My paws thread the forest at great speed, releasing all the energies I had stored this past week. I run till I'm certain I'm at the park borders, the river looks so inviting as I drink from it. I look around wondering what will happen if I take a quick swim.
Sure, the river was not part of the pack and that will be crossing boundaries but who will know? I don't see any border security around, I shift into my human form before jumping in.
The water is cold, almost freezing because it's morning but soon my body adapts to it. I close my eyes enjoying the tides of the river.
Suddenly I feel a presence, my eyes snap open and I realize I'm far away from my pack borders. Still, I see no one around, then I feel it.
A force drags me out of the river as I struggle to swim but I seem to have lost my voice.
I'm on the other side of the river, the force releases me.
I scramble up in fear and try to shift but I can't.
A shadow emerges from the woods, a young girl. Probably not more than thirteen, her white hair stands out. I'm intrigued by her beauty when a sudden realization dawns on me.
Witch
This young girl is the huge force that dragged me from the river.
I snarl in anger " What do you want witch "
She smiles, her eyes twinkling like stars, grabbing my hand before I can react
" Descendant of Odeyana, furs as black as the night and that of her ancestor. Shall be given two mates in a lifetime…. Each with its part in her destiny. But as she rises with the day, she shall rise with a descendant of a witch and a wolf. When the war begins their two black furs shall be seen at the front leading warriors to a fate of victory or death. Prices shall be paid for two destinies to be fulfilled…oh daughter of Odeyana thy paws ready to run the race of destiny…………"
Before I can talk I'm tossed again, this with greater force till I land on my pack border. I think I black out.
