“Hey, Mom.” I tried to sound as excited as I really felt. It was New Year’s Day, and this was the first time I had spent it without my mom. Luckily, thanks to mobile phones I could speak to her at least. “Hey, sweetheart. How are you? Happy New Year, my little baby girl.” I knew my mom had tears of sadness but also happiness in her eyes, and her voice shook as she tried to hold the tears back.  “Moooom. I am not a baby girl anymore.” I said jokingly, trying to ease her pain and sadness. “I am more than fine. I wish you could be here with me right now.
