Alex couldn't think he grabbed his keys off the hook literally running for his car. Nothing was processing. He hadn't even waited for Zach to say anything else. How could this happen?
He reached the emergency room before he even realized he was there. He had just spoken to her. Why was she shot? Where was she shot? Are the babies okay? Alex didn't know what to ask first so he just started yelling questions.
Forgetting that Zach and Maggie were the only ones who knew, he was the babies' father. He didn't even care at that moment. Ignoring the stunned looks of the people around him. He asked "What the f**k is going on?"
Doctor Malechek came out of the trauma bay. She looked at Alex a bit surprised by his question. "She's going to be okay. Victoria was shot on the right side of her abdomen. The bullet is lodged in her liver. We have her stabilized at the moment but she is going to need surgery. Have you contacted her family?" she asked. Maggie responded "We are her only family. With exception to her grandmother who is in long term care." The doctor nodded in understanding. "I will let you know how things go. O.B. is with her right now. Do you all have any questions?" she asked.
Alex said yes and asked "How will the surgery effect our children?" Malechek smiled. She had separated Alex and Vic several times during their arguments. She simply responded "I was right. Ford owes me a hundred dollars." Then she told him "The obstetrician will discuss that with you. He will also monitor the surgery. It's hospital policy. Is there anything else?" They all shook their heads no and walked to the waiting room.
As they sat there waiting for the obstetrician. Alex asked if they knew how it happened. Maggie told him "The nurse that came to get me said she was at a gas station. He said the E.M.T.'s told them it was an attempted robbery."
Alex lost it and started yelling " SO SHE ALMOST DIES. MAYBE LOSES OUR CHILDREN. ALL BECAUSE SOME SORRY SON OF A b***h TRIED TO ROB A GAS STATION AND COULDN'T EVEN DO IT RIGHT." Pretty sure the whole city heard that.
Anyway, so while they were in the waiting room Vic was waking up in the trauma bay. She groggily asked what happened and where she was. When the nurse told her she started crying. She asked if the babies were okay. The nurse responded "Their heart beats are strong. I'll go let the doctors know you're awake."
Vic laid back keeping her hands on her stomach. She asked "Please, be okay?" adding "Don't you dare leave me. I love you so much!" talking to her children. She didn't even care about the pain. She just needed her children to be okay.
The obstetrician walked in to the waiting room. He called for Alex who must be psychic because he was already out of his seat. "I'm Alexander Keen" he said. The doctor walked over and introduced himself "I am Doctor Quinton" adding "The babies both look good. There was of course stress due to trauma but they're both fighters. I'll work closely with the surgery team and monitor everything myself. I promise I will keep you informed." As soon as he finished speaking Doctor Malechek came over saying "She's on her way to surgery. You all can wait up there if you want. Hell coffee sounds good right now." They all said Thank you walking toward the elevators.
Vic was on the operating table, physically at least. Her mind had her sitting on a blanket in the park. She must have been dreaming because she was with Alex and two identical little boys.
It was a beautiful summer day. The sun shown down on the most gorgeous willow tree. There was a comfortable breeze. Keeping it just the right temperature. The grass was the perfect shade of green.
A playground with newer equipment. It was already dirty. Ah, what can you do? The boys were arguing over a swing. Seriously there were four of them. What's that one got that the others don't?
Suddenly, Alex raised his voice just enough to be heard and said "Frank, Steve was already using that one. Go to one of the others." Frank pouted but moved to another swing. This was her dream. Why didn't she know her children's names?
The sun was starting to set when Alex turned to her saying "Come on Gorgeous. It's my turn to cook dinner. Besides I'm pretty sure. Frank is planning Steve's murder right now."
Yep she was definitely dreaming. No way Alex can cook. She smiled up at him and took his hands as he pulled her up. Holy s**t, she was pregnant. That can't be right the twins had to be five.
Oh, well it's just a dream. She squatted down to pick up the blanket they were sitting on. Alex said "Here we'll take that." That's when she noticed him holding a little girl. She had to be three. This is just a dream she told herself.
The little girl held out her hand saying "I take it mommy" She was adorable Vic realized they had the same hair color but the girls eyes were blue like Alex's. She had trouble written all over her. "Thank you princess Bella." he said.
Vic suddenly heard the twins arguing over who could hold her hand. Alex looked at them saying "Boy's she has two. You can each hold one." They each took a hand. That's when Vic looked down, noticing that they looked exactly like their father. Except they had her hazel eyes.
Suddenly Vic was standing in the hallway. Of a two story house she had never seen before. Alex took her hand saying "Come on gorgeous. Let's go to bed." They were just laying down when Vic opened her eyes. Wow that was some dream.
