Vic was sitting on the living room floor. Playing with the boys when her phone rang. "Hello" she answered. The woman on the other end asked "May I speak to Victoria Davies, please?" Vic answered "I'm Victoria Davies-Keen."
"Ma'am my name is Estelle at Mt. Helena. I am sorry to have to tell you this. Your grandmother Rosalinda passed in her sleep last night." Vic started crying then said "Okay, I'll be there soon." before hanging up.
Vic stood walking to Alex's bedroom. As she entered the room to wake him. It hit her all at once. Her grandmother was gone. She collapsed on the floor sobbing.
Alex woke up to the sound of a thud. He immediately sat up on the bed. The minute he saw Vic on the floor sobbing. He climbed out of bed "Vic what's wrong?" he asked. "M-my gr-gran-dma d-d-died." she stuttered while crying her heart out. Alex wrapped her in his arms. He just held her not saying a word.
Once she calmed down enough he asked "What do you need me to do?" Vic looked up at him still catching her breath while trying to wipe her eyes. She asked "Could you ask your sister to come stay with the boys?" Then she told him "I really need you to come with me. My parents will probably show up. I'm sure they want to take everything from her room." He nodded saying "Of course gorgeous. I'll do that while I get dressed."
Fifteen minutes later there was a knock at the door. Alex opened the door for his sister, Sam, who looked somber. After making sure the boys were okay and explaining everything to Sam. They to go to the facility. Neither spoke the entire way.
They had no sooner entered the building when Vic heard her mother ask "What's that w***e doing here?" Vic looked at her saying "I'm here to see my grandmother. Before they remove her body." That's when she noticed her mother, along with her, father were holding boxes full of her grandma's things.
Her father gave her a sickening smile. She grabbed Alex's arm as her father said "Hey, there baby girl." with a wink. She really couldn't deal with the police being called not at that moment. She simply looked up at Alex with tears in her eyes shaking her head. Then she took his hand leading him to her grandma's room.
They walked in silence.
As they entered the room Vic's eyes went straight to her grandmother. Rosalinda was lying in her bed as if she were still asleep.
Alex was scanning the room. Her parents had already taken all of the pictures. They had removed the television, as well as the books. Dresser drawers were open but empty. They had cleared out the closet. Alex had no idea how they could have done all of it in such a short period of time. It was insane.
Vic wasn't going to worry about anything but saying goodbye. Rosalinda wasn't the best grandmother in the world but she never hurt Vic. Her parents could have everything. Vic didn't care.
The next week was the hardest. Rosalinda had life insurance. However, it all went to Vic's mother. Which meant Vic had to arrange for the funeral. Along with covering the cost. Thankfully, Alex's family was there to help with the children. Pauline even made dinner for them. Maggie and Zach were helping Vic with the funeral arrangements. She had never appreciated the people in her life more than she did at that time.
The funeral was on a Saturday. With most of her friends already gone. There weren't many people there. Of course Vic's parents showed up. Her mother, drunk, complaining about the service.
Vic again had to stop Alex from hitting her father. Only this time Zach had to hold Maggie back as well. They were both ready to kill him. After her father asked about "his grandsons". They had apparently found a picture of the twins in Rosalinda's belongings. Alex told her father "I'll send you to hell. Before I ever let you near my boys." that was a promise.
When everything was over Vic was exhausted. Alex took her home. He held her all night as she cried. Letting her know that although she might not understand why he loved her.
