A doctor walked into the waiting area calling for Alex. I swear he's psychic, he was out of his seat the second the doctor walked in. He again said "I'm Alexander Keen." "I am Doctor Takahashi. Miss Davies surgery went well. We were able to remove the bullet. Her liver should heal well. There was minimal damage to her liver thankfully. She should wake up with in the next hour. I will have them let you know when you can see her." Doctor Takahashi explained. Alex, Maggie and, Zach Thanked him. Then he left.
Five minutes later Doctor Quinton walked in. Alex stood up when he saw him. Ok maybe he's not psychic. Doctor Quinton reported "The babies are doing well. Troopers I tell you. The surgery, there was a moment we were worried but she came through." "What do you mean?" Maggie asked before Alex could.
"Doctor Takahashi didn't tell you?" Doctor Quinton asked. Before saying "I swear that man needs to learn about details. Her heart stopped for three minutes. They were able to get her back to a normal rhythm. The rest of the surgery went with out incident."
Maggie glared at the doctor as Alex asked "What effect could that have on the children?" "There is no cut and dry answer for that. Each case is different. As for this case. The babies heart rates remained strong. They were able to get her heart beating again before brain damage could occur. So their shouldn't be any long term issues." Doctor Quinton stated. Alex asked "Why did her heart stop?" Doctor Quinton shook his head "We aren't sure and speculation would be useless." he said before asking "Did you have any other questions?" They said no but Alex decided he would talk to Doctor Takahashi.
Twenty minutes later a nurse came to escort them to Vic's room. Alex told them he would meet them there. So Maggie and Zach went with the nurse.
She was lying in bed still groggy from surgery. The pain medication wasn't helping with that. Maggie walked over and kissed her forehead saying "Hey Regan we're here." in a low voice. Vic looked at Maggie croaking as she said "Hi Maggie."
Zach grabbed some water holding it for her as she sipped it. He also said hello to her. Vic smiled at them saying "I had the strangest dream." Maggie told her "It wasn't a dream little sis. You are in the hospital. You were shot. You just got out...." Before she could finish Vic started crying asking if the babies were alright. Zach assured her they were.
One week later Vic was released from the hospital. She was still in a great deal of pain. They told here to take it easy. To which she of course made a smart ass remark saying "No really, I can't do gymnastics?" before rolling her eyes while mumbling "I'm not an idiot."
Alex had spoken to Doctor Takahashi. Who told him that Vic may have a heart issue they couldn't detect. It also could have been a reaction to the surgery. Alex made them do a chest x-ray. To rule out any bullet fragments. Which of course weren't there because the bullet was intact.
The police arrested the shooter two blocks from the gas station. The i***t still had the gun on him. One less thing for Vic to stress about.
Two months later Vic was living with Alex. She was already healed from the shooting. Physically anyway, mentally she was having nightmares and had to go back to therapy.
She was six months pregnant. The babies were both healthy. They had found out they were in fact identical twins. Vic's prayer was answered, they were boys.
She and Alex were getting along better. They still argued occasionally though. "Stop telling me my choices are stupid." Vic said. Alex responded "Stop choosing childish things." "It's a nursery you Jackass. Of course I'm going to choose childish things."she said. "They won't be needing toy cars until they're at least two." he told her.
She was done "They Are Decorative You Idiot." she almost yelled as she left the room. She was just about to slam her bedroom door. When he yelled "HOT WHEELS AREN'T DECORATIVE". "OH,BUT TOY SOLDIERS ARE?" Vic screamed back. Then she slammed her door. Alex stormed in to the living room. Slamming the nursery door as he went.
