Alex left the diner with Vic right in front of him. They had agreed that she would move in with him. That was a step toward his ultimate goal.
He realized during his talk with Zach and Maggie. That while he didn't like her he was very attracted to her. Zach had even pointed out that he might eventually learn to like her. Maybe even love her. Though Alex and Maggie both told him he was crazy. Not about the liking her part but the loving her.
Alex had told them that he wanted to be in his child's life. He also admitted, why he can't understand, that he couldn't forget that night. Then he told them what her plans for the situation were. Explaining that he respected her for that.
That's when Maggie hit him hard by telling him some of Vic's past. She added that she didn't know it all. Hell what she told him was bad enough. Yeah, he definitely had to respect her.
He'd marry her whether he did or not though. Solely because of the baby. He really did believe a child should be born after marriage. Call him old fashioned but that was how he was raised. She was a stubborn woman though. He figured that out the day he met her.
Vic made it back to her apartment after exchanging phone numbers and addresses with Alex. Promising to let him know when the first doctor's appointment was. She also promised to move in by the first of the following month. God help her that was not going to end well.
She sat on her couch just thinking about everything. She was going to be a mother. Would she be a better mother than her's was? God, would Alex be a better father than her's? "Please be a boy?" she asked the baby out loud.
Vic couldn't have a daughter go through what she did. She wouldn't let any little girl go through that.
Her childhood began to come back to her. She started crying. Remembering the way her mother ignored her as if she didn't exist. How her father came into her room almost everynight after her mother past out drunk.
She remembered graduating high school early so she could become emancipated. Working her way through college so she'd have a career. Years of therapy and groups. She just wanted her children to have a much better life.
Vic finally stopped crying and decided to take a nap. 'Maybe I should go back to therapy' was her last thought before sleep overcame her.
One week later Vic and Alex were at the doctor's office. As they sat in the waiting room they decided to stay quiet. Neither of them wanted to argue.
A little girl came up to Vic saying "You have pretty hair." Vic replied "Thank you, sweety. Your hair is pretty too." The little girl really did have beautiful hair. It was red and just reached her shoulders. Curling at the ends it went perfectly with her green eyes. She asked "What's your name?" The girl said "Amilia Marie Donavan".
"It's nice to meet you Amilia. My name is Victoria." she said. Amilia told her "I like your name. My barbie's name is Lizzie." Vic smiled brightly looking at the girls doll. She said "Well it is very nice to meet you Lizzie. You are very pretty too." Amilia gave a big smile and ran away.
Alex just sat there staring at Vic. She was gorgeous. Even more so when she smiled. She noticed him staring and asked "What?" He just responded "You're really good with children." Vic laughed "Don't seem so surprised. I told you I'm actually a nice person."
The nurse called her name so she didn't notice Alex roll his eyes. The nurse took her vitals and weight. Which she was a little upset about. Alex couldn't understand why she only weighed one hundred and thirty pounds. She was far from fat.
They walked into the exam room. The nurse handed her a cup pointing to the bathroom. Vic walked into the bathroom doing what she was supposed to. She had been holding it just for this reason.
When she came back into the room she set the cup down asking Alex to step out, but leave the door cracked, so she could change. He asked "Doesn't that defeat the purpose?" She sighed asking as calmly as she could. "Please, just don't close the door all the way. Just leave it cracked so it doesn't lock."
Alex wondered why but decided not to ask. He knew these rooms didn't lock. So, did she. Why would she think it would? He did as she asked making sure to stand with his back to the door.
Vic changed quickly letting Alex know he could come back in. He couldn't hold it in any longer he asked "Why do you think the door would lock? I mean they don't have locks." She became defensive saying "It's none of your business. I just don't like closed doors, okay."
The doctor came into the room telling them she was definitely pregnant. Vic had to say "Yeah, the other four tests said that too." The doctor simply smiled.
They both answered all of the doctor's questions. Finally the doctor said "Let's listen to the babies heart beat. The minute Vic heard it she looked at the doctor smiling. It was really real and such a beautiful sound. She silently promised to be the best mom ever.
Alex just stared at Vic. This was just wow. He actually smiled at her. He Never thought that would happen. Their child's heart beat was the most wonderful sound in the world.
Then the doctor told them to wait a minute. He was going to get an ultrasound. They both looked at each other worried. The doctor had already told them they would have another appointment for that. The doctor came in, a few minutes later, pushing the machine.
He moved the wand until he found what he was looking for. Both Vic and Alex were nervous. Alex finally asked "What's wrong?". The doctor looked at him and said "Nothing's wrong. You're having twins. I suspect they're identical. We'll have to wait a little longer to find out for sure though. I'll do another ultrasound at five months. Then a third closer to your due date. Just know that they'll almost certainly come early."
Vic looked at him like he was crazy. Alex asked him to repeat himself then told him not to. They were both shocked. Two children, probably two identical children.
